2 out of 3 years here. And the other one he played with no one missed 20 games and still scored 22.. you don't make your team better by trading your top goal scorer. Your star player is always more important than the coach

And 1 one of those was in a non-playoff year. He could have scored 80 for all I care.

This team will be better without Gaborik. But the reality is you wouldn't get anything for him because anyone who watches him play knows he's incapable of getting dirty and scoring goals that matter.

Maybe we should dump Torts and his terrible system before we look to dump a proven 40 goal scorer for having a bad year with an overly defensive minded coach in a shortened season with no real training camp.

So what you just did is make excuses for the player but gave none to the coach.

You haven't the slightest idea what you're talking about. Or you're suffering from amnesia.

You would get a first and a good prospect at the very least. Likely a serviceable third liner back for salary cap reasons too.

Gaustad was traded for a first just last year. A fourth line face off specialist center. For a first.

Who gave this guy a keyboard and internet access?

He had a pretty bad game tonight as it went on, but jesus tap-dancing christ. Goals that dont matter?

Honestly, if this ******* is still gonna be around coaching this team, maybe Gaborik should go somewhere he would flourish offensively and not with this ******** and these moronic fans.

The problems the team is experiencing have been the same problems this team has always had under Tortorella. Marian Gaborik deserves a lot of credit for breaking the 40 goal plateu twice with this guy behind the bench. Torts is the problem itself. Training camp or not, shortened season or not. His philosophies are crippling to our offense and it will always remain that way with him here. I really like him as a person, but I'm not a fan of his coaching style. It gets us winning streaks but ultimately it's unlikely to work through 4 playoff series when you can't score.

The "sneaky" argument is silly, IMO. The game is played in an enclosed, small environment.

"Sneaky".

He's lazy. Disengaged. Disinterested. He's shown up for two games this season. 2g-2a in the rest of the 14 games.

7.5 million.

Then you have a player like Hagelin, who never stops, scored 10 points in his last 8 games, plays in all situations.

875k.[/QUOTE

When is that contract up?

Gaborik has done everything thats been asked of him in his time here, has he not?

Honestly, id be tuning Torts out by this time myself. This system wears on you pretty quickly.

If Tortorella and his bonehead system is here to stay, then maybe Gaborik should go and play somewhere he'll be suited for. Get outta this ****hole.

So its Tortorella's fault that Gaborik refuses to skate, doesn't give a second effort on plays, avoids physical play?

No accountability needed for high-priced players because "they've done stuff before"?

Vacation resort mentality. See: 98-04 New York Rangers.

No one wants to play for him anymore. They just shrug his advice off. Hes lost his players. And as far as ur question, u coach your players to their strengths not what u want to do to get the best out of them. Or should or top goal scorer be diving to block shots and. Taking hits into the boards for concussions? His system is good for 3 things... the worst power play ever, no goal scoring, and injuries

brilliant! 100% correct. they are totally tuning this coach out, and if they're not, you're just seeing an execution night after night of this torts' brain dead approach to hockey.

I think the ones that are anti-Gaborik are the ones most content with this system perhaps. I for one, am not. I want Gaborik in a more open system, not this ****ing ********.

Square peg meet hole.

Tuned him out? Good, ****ing awesome. Keep doing it. Cost the ******* his job. Enough of this mud hockey.

Lots of complaining about "systems". Break it down. Let's see if you really understand what system it is you think you hate.

And before you start, "dump and chase grind" isn't a "system". I want to see the set plays drawn out, wing lock, forecheck, backcheck, neutral zone, face off plays, breakouts, coverage, everything that goes into a system, detailed.

Draw up Tortorella and Sullivan's entire system. And then breakdown why exactly you believe it isn't working.

.............

And then break down individual plays and come up with valid reasons why the smart play of getting the puck deep, rather then turning it over in the neutral zone or at the opposition's blue line, should be frowned upon.

Or if the current personnel is capable of "opening" up the play...or if you even understand what that means...

Complain about line combinations not working, but unless you have working knowledge of what systems are, it would be wiser not to question a highly regarded coach's systems.

Gaborik made his own bed. What happens to him is all on him. Systems don't prevent players from giving an honest effort. Gaborik doesn't want to work? He deserves to be benched in favor of a player who will work.

I think you are completely wrong. Gaborik has been in the thick of it consistently over many games, and actually has not been shy at all about getting into the thick of it.

No one wants to play for him? You know this because you're in the locker room? The players know you personally and trust you enough to share this information with you?

I agree with you 100%. Gabby deserved his time on pine. So have others, and they too need to be benched or scratched soon.

And here is my analysis of JT's PP system: lose the face-off, forward (named Richards) lugs the puck up the ice as slowly as possible to allow the defending team time to set up and read our "attack", our forwards hang out at the attacking blue line and wait for Richards to catch up, stand still and watch Richards dump the puck in deep. Now start from a stand-still and go chase the puck. If the defending team flubs the puck, recover it. Now, everyone form a wide circle along the walls, no one go to the front of the net. Stand still and pass the puck 3,000 times to tire out the defenders eyes, maybe they'll fall asleep. Do not shoot unless there is a perfect play to be made. Keep passing it around until you lose control, then turn and go chase it after the defending team fires it down the ice. Rinse and repeat.

So far, the team is executing this system to perfection! :)

You dont need to be a weatherman to know which way the wind blows.

You dont need to be a coach to know this system doesnt work with these players.

I actually think most of us here would like to see if you really understand it yourself. So go ahead and lay on us your infinite NHL coaching knowledge and explain Tortorella's system better than he would.

This teams issues are deeper than just whining over Gaborik.

You can see it in their performance the same way the Yankees did with Torre towards the end of his tenure

Hes probably the most annoying armchair GM on these boards. Well, at least the Rangers board.

Why didnt the Sabres give him a call?

Why does it seem like people will defend Torts to their deaths on here? How many people have we brought in under him? R u trying to tell me its all the personnel brought in here rather than the coaching?

90% of hockey organizations and fan bases usually want the coach to go first. Somehow, the Rangers fan base is different. We should trade our entire roster before our coach. Yesterday, someone said he would want to trade Lundqvist for some good trade picks and prospects.

At this point, it seems that only non-tradeable players are Nash, Callahan, McDonagh and Hagelin.
