This is so ridiculous. Just let Gaborik play through his "struggles". You can't replace someone like him in a trade. And you're not going to get good value for him.

If he's only here for two more seasons, fine. We're Cup contenders the next two years.

I don't want a "depth player" for him. That's so ridiculous. We're going to have so many of those once Kreider, Miller, and other kids take the next step. I'll keep my 40-goal scorer.

Could you imagine the amount of turnover if players werent allowed to play through slumps?

Imagine if we traded Gaborik in the 2011 offseason because of his down year.

A good young player +. Depth scoring. Nash was already brought in to replace Gaboriks scoring

We have enough young players. We could use a 2nd/3rd line type player RIGHT NOW, but by the end of the season we could possibly have a log jam of "depth players" if Kreider comes back up and everyone is healthy. Plus you have guys like Thomas, Fast, and Lindberg coming in the next few seasons.

An elite scorer like Gaborik is very valuable to this team right now. He's cold right now, but eventually he'll have that 2-3 goal game that gets him out of it and he'll be on a roll. And you're going to want him on your team come playoff time, not another kid, trust me.

Those kids you mentioned are not going to be top 6 forwards in the next year. Get a young top 6 forward with upside who will fit what the team is doing.

Callahan doesn't score 40 goals, I would take another Callahan over Gaborik.

I can see why you would but I wouldnt. Call me foolish but oh well. Elite goal scorers dont grow on trees and are very important in this NHL. I love Callahan, but he is overrated by our peers. He had a hell of a game the other night, but the team didnt respond with him and we ultimately lost. If that were a game Gaborik had a hat trick or just a few goals, we have a W.

Either way, its not something I would entertain anyway. They both have roles on this team separate from each other. On a team desperate for offense, I keep the more offensive player however. Callahan is the leader, but it says a bit when we lose other heart and soul guys like Prust and Dubinsky and the team struggles from it.

Should Callahan play 4 positions?

If Gaborik, had scored instead of Callahan the team would have lost too. Same amount of goals.

Gaborik is 32. His offense is based on speed. That speed will start to deteriorate and he has injury concerns, that won't get better.

Gaborik has the ability to bust out with gamebreaking offense that wins us games. Callahan doesnt.

Callahan's style of play also has injury concerns. I love Callahan, but I am in the 'overrated' group.

The list of team importance, hes not above Nash, Richards, Gaborik or Lundqvist.

I thought Nash was brought here to supplement Gaborik's scoring. The main problem with this team last year was lack of offense. They needed another offensive threat and now they have one. Trading Gabby at this point is moving backward in my opinion.

Thats the thing about this.

Nash comes in, plays great, Gaborik struggles, so now everyone is comfortable with keeping one and trading the other, when the original idea was to have both.

All of which after 19 games worth.

I have been saying to trade Gaborik towards the end of his contract since he was signed.

The idea was to improve the offense.

Richards
Gaborik
Dubinsky
Callahan
Anisomov
Stepan
Hagelin

Is not as good as

Richards
Nash
Hagelin
Stepan
Perron (or other young top 6er acquired)
Callahan

And that is not even taking into account the other pieces that Gaborik would bring back like a top6 defenseman or bottom 6 forward.

I would rather have a 3 or 4 million dollar young skilled forward who will fit with this teams identity + than Gaborik.

If the idea was to improve offense, you don't add a 30 goal scorer and then get rid of a 40 goal scorer. Even if you want to call that exchange a wash, the team lost Dubi, Arti, Erixon and a first for what exactly? Space to sign a guy like Perron? I thought the Nash trade was made to put the team over the top offensively until the end of Gabby's contract, thereby solving the main problem that plagued them last year.

The first group was six wins from the Stanley Cup last year.

Trading a 3x 40 goal scorer for a guy who hasnt cracked 22 in his career is an improvement?

Gaborik for Perron+ is all on the basis of playing Tortorella hockey better, am I correct?

Btw, for as good as Nash is playing (and this isnt a knock on Nash at all, hes the MVP thus far), he is only on pace for 21 goals in a full season this year. So Nash and Perron = Gaborik's production.

It based on getting a team that can have a single identity. It's based on a team that will spread the offense out and get younger and better in the long run.

Yet again, not sustainable.

Short term? No

Long term? Yes

Just agree to disagree my friend.

Just wanna let this year play out.

I do agree at some point it will have to be addressed, but not right now.

Richards, Nash, Hagelin, Stepan, Gaborik, Callahan. is much better than that. even with whatever bottom d or forward you get with Perron/etc.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again:

I understand Gaborik will eventually have to be dealt. It's understandable.

If we don't, we run the risk in losing him to free agency.

If we can get pieces back like what has been discussed, then it makes sense to do so.

However, I really would like to see him win a Cup here. He's done so much for the team in the past few years that he deserves it.

if we're in the middle of a cup run either this year or next year, its not understandable to trade him. They could just ride it out, maybe resign him (if he would take less?) or use his money off the books to replace him.

Pretty much my sentiments.

Gaborik really deserves a Cup here. Hes given us some great Ranger moments the last few years, especially last year.

It just makes zero sense to move your best goal scorer when you're still in the race.. 3 pts out with 4 games on Philly.

He's in his 4th year here! Deserve???? You gotta be kidding me! If anyone on this team "deserves" anything it's Henrik
