That is exactly what I would say as well. A good young top 6 forward or top 4 dman has to be the centerpiece coming back. Perron? Bogosian? Players like that

nope. not a D-man simply because I believe we have a very strong top 4 at the moment and someone who is a quality #5 in Stralman. IF we're moving Gabs, I want some serious offense coming back.

They need a top4 RD. If someone offers a good young defenseman who can move the puck well I would jump at that. We all know puck movers have a VERY high value

Why does it have to be 1 for 1? I'd take a good young 3c too. Also Gaborik won't be here beyond next year. Maximize the assets value for the long term health of the organization

I understand he won't be here beyond next year, but this year and next year will be our best chance at a cup.

It makes no sense to move a 40 goal scorer in a slump during a Cup season. Bottom line.

Some people are blinded by all the glare off Nash this season. Hes been our best forward and I love the guy, but lets not forget who our main offensive cog has been the last four years. Its been 19 games. Thats it fellas. 19.

Save the trade talk for the offseason.

Why? Who is leaving besides Gaborik? Hank isn't going anywhere. Nash. Callahan. Staal. Girardi. McDonagh.

The Rangers have good young players on the way as well. They are on record saying they want to develop an organization that will compete for a long time. Not just 2 years.

What are you replacing elite goalscoring with?

Theres no guarantee the value returned will have an impact. Frankly, its 2013, its a Cup season, and im worried about this year. Lets cross some bridges when we get to them.

Teams should think about now and the future. That is how you continually ice competitive teams.

A good young player +. Depth scoring. Nash was already brought in to replace Gaboriks scoring

4 goal Nash vs 112 goal Gaborik?

Come on, I love Nash but lets be real here, its been 19 games (15 for Nash).

Whos available right now for depth scoring that you would trade Gaborik for?

Obviously can't answer that because I don't know. Perron? It's a hypothetical. If you don't agree that's fine, I don't see him being a huge part of the team moving forward and would love to add 2 or 3 pieces that would be for him,

I agree, I dont either, but I just think its too soon at the moment to entertain, at least this season.

Draft at the earliest IMO.

Are you comparing this team with the 2010 Blackhawks? Please, I would like to see how they compare.

The Blackhawks didnt trade players that won them the Cup because of impending cap issues, is my point. Im obviously speaking of the time before the eventual Cup, not after. They held the team intact and waited for the season to play out before the cap dismantled part of the team. Zero to do with talent. Theyre my 2nd favorite team, and really, the talent gap is quite big

The Rangers should do the same.

Do you really think we can get 2-3 quality pieces for Gaborik

That's because the pieces were RFA's different situations. They traded away those players over that off-season and recouped a ton of assets.

Right, not before a Cup chance, but after winning one.

We have a shot this year, so id rather keep the elite goal scorer.

I also dont think we'd get a return to match his current impact because it would definitely include futures. We would actually be getting worse short term in theory.

Whos to say any newcomer will also do well with Tortorella's system? They probably need a training camp first instead of just jumping into the fire, clearly evidenced by this season. Making a shakeup a month before the playoffs, im not sure about.

This is so ridiculous. Just let Gaborik play through his "struggles". You can't replace someone like him in a trade. And you're not going to get good value for him.

If he's only here for two more seasons, fine. We're Cup contenders the next two years.

I don't want a "depth player" for him. That's so ridiculous. We're going to have so many of those once Kreider, Miller, and other kids take the next step. I'll keep my 40-goal scorer.

Any homerun scenario with Gaborik involving guys like Pavelski is a pipedream too. SJ has zero reason to trade Pavelski + for Gaborik.
