Confirmed with Link: Marian Gaborik to Columbus for Brassard, J. Moore and Dorsett

Maybe, but even though the refs have let a bunch of stuff like that go in the playoffs, I have a hard time complaining about something that was legitimately a penalty.

Yeah, the calls have certainly been different in the playoffs. That said, stick between the legs should equal a penalty every time, playoffs or no.

I have a feeling there is something to like inside Dorsett...we just haven't seen it yet.

Not complaining. I said he needs to stay out of the box.

Fair enough. I just think that penalty wasn't one that was really in his control. Circumstances created the penalty, not action.

Dorsett, so far, has shown flashes of what we hope he is (the 2nd coming of Prust, in a way), but he hasn't exactly been great yet. I think it's more of an adjustment period to his new team. Let's not forget that he's only played 3 games with them.

Not only has he only played in 3 games with his new game, but he's only played 3 games in a few months. And to come back in the playoffs which is a whole different animal in addition to a new team, the adjustment period takes longer.

Agreed. Either way, he's more valuable in the lineup than our other options.

I get that. I would like the penalties he takes to be more of the ones that are out of his control. It makes those penalties harder to take when the takes bad ones as well.

I actually, don't see a lot of Prust in him at all. Prust was a smarter player. He could kill penalties. He put himself in position to score some garbage goals. I see more Todd Harvey or Hollweg than I do Prust.

I'm not killing the guy. But 6 PIM when you're aveaging 11 minutes ATOI is not great. Especially when the team has said time and again that they need to stay out of the box against the Caps.

The trip was a call that at first looked like a bad call, but on replay looked more like something that could or could not be called. I thought the defenseman put himself in position to be tripped. He still has taken some bad penalties is the only games he played.

We heard about grit and energy. Those things are great when they don't result in being short-handed. And the more bad penalties he takes, the less benefit of the doubt he's going to get with the refs.

It's his style of play. He is aggressive. He will rack up the PIM's. Like I said when he was acquired. He has a bit of "crazy" in him. That "crazy" has been missing from the Rangers game. I would rather him take penalties for being too aggressive than sit back and do nothing.

This team doesn't need crazy. They need to keep the WAS PP off the ice as much as possible.

Thats wonderful.

...still needs to stay out of the box.

There is a fine line there. I will take the aggressive penalties, especially in the playoffs. If he lays out Green, I'm okay with 2 minutes.

Neil has played that way forever. He is VERY effective. Prust played that way last year. Avery did the same thing with the Rangers.

I am not talking about him going out there every shift and taking runs. What I am saying, is that a team that can dish out the physical play and intimidate a little bit will be more effective in the playoffs over a long series.

That is the reason I was so excited to add both Clowe and Dorsett. The team was too bland.

I think Dorsett has been garbage.

However, Brass has forced crow down my throat and Moore looks fantastic. The key is for Brassard to not pull a vanishing act. If he can even play kind of like this if we advance we're in great shape.

Garbage? What were your expectation for a 3rd/4th liner?

And, Brass need to continue to average 2.5 ppg?

He took 1.

Disagree totally

I don't think he's been useful in the least. He was heralded as a Prust like player, except instead we have a guy who's taken bad penalties consistently and so far hasn't shown any of the offensive (and honestly, I don't see defensive either) skills Prust did at his best here.

It's been three games. He'll probably get better. Right now though he has not been a good player for the Rangers.

I was expecting Brandon Prust. You know, a good 3rd/4th line player.

And no, he needs to continue playing well. Even if he's not getting points he needs to continue to play a complete game, as he has. What's so hard to understand about that? Did you even read the post? Jesus christ.

You mean with the nonsensical first part? He was correct about Moore and Brassard.

Nonsensical? In what world has this guy been good? Please, show me. I'd love to have my opinion of this guy changed but in 3 games he's been bad. I never made a claim about what he WILL be, just what he HAS been- bad.

except the negative connotation because he has been fine as Ranger

Yeah, because 17 games as a Ranger trumps his entire career up to this point.

Yes, of course.

He is a good 3rd/4th line player. He is coming back to a new team after missing a couple of months. He has been physical and has been going hard to the net. That is his job. He has blocked a couple of shots. He hasn't been terrible at all.

Callahan has taken more penalties, no? He is that type of player. But he is not Prust.

Because with what you are saying, there seems to be no middle ground. He has either been bad, or good.

In what world has he been garbage ?

Ya see, no one is saying he's been a worldbeater, he's been okay for what he does, coming off a long time on IR. He looks rusty if anything. But garbage implies he's a black hole, which he has not been.

Well Torts has pretty much stated multiple times that he doesn't follow the NHL or know players on other teams. I wouldnt doubt that he is on a very short leash until he feels that he can trust him. Just like him giving Moore next to no minutes in the beginning. With it being the playoffs, it just makes it worse.

At the same time Dorsett might be trying to prove himself too hard. Tough position to be in... first games of you NY career are in the playoffs. I think the regular season will be much better for Dorsett.

I disagree. I think his decision-making has been suspect and he hasn't provided enough of what he can bring. In his first game back especially he was horrid, but he's been less of that in the last two.

Again, not saying he won't be good. Just saying I don't think he's been good yet.

Taylor Pyatt was getting LAMBASTED on this forum for doing nothing. Dorsett has not looked any better than Pyatt has, and in his first game back was terrible. He's getting better but he has not been good. Maybe garbage is too strong of a word for what has been an inconsequential 4th liner for two games, but he had a strong negative impact in his first game back. And he's been taking bad penalties against the best PP team in the league.
