Just saw that he got a head coach job in NHL. What are you guys memories of him as a player? Was he any good?

He got traded for thornton, thats my only memory of him.

Other than than the trade I most remember him getting injured in the 04 playoffs, which was a huge factor in losing the WCF. That was my first season cheering for the Sharks back in my middle school days, fun team

He was one of my favorite players when I was young but the main memory of him as a player is his horrific leg injury. I’ll never forget that

When Boston got him he was not near what he was before the injury. lost some speed in his skating but was a good hockey IQ player. I think he will do a good job but with the Bears at end of "top of league roster days" (still some good talent) and rebuilding it will depend on the acquisitions as to how well he can do.

Leg Injury for sure, He was one of the fastest skaters in the league before that. Great motor, fun to watch. I believe had the best career of any German born player until Leon came around. He was a fan fav and iconic shark for sure.

Big thing is obviously Sturm being one of the two big pieces in the Thornton trade, but I remember liking him a lot as a player on that 2004 Sharks team.

He was injured before the playoffs.

Marco was my favorite Shark for years prior to the Thornton trade. Fast, smart, great on the PK. Less shoot-at-the-goalie's chest shots on breakaways, that was Marleau's schtick. I was honestly rooting for him to get the job when Warso was hired. I feel like he had flashes of taking over games on his better shifts before his leg injury.

Nabby was very good that year. I would say, "if the Sharks traded Kipper to an Eastern Conference team not named the Lightning, the Sharks probably win the Cup in 03-04."
