Player Discussion Marco Rossi

All more proof that I don't think Guerin knows how to f***ing negotiate. Can we just move him to some other part of the organization that does player relation? Like Modano

Not sure if he's gonna get Boldy money. But 5 mil, get out of here. Too cheap.
Bridge him, then decide if you want to commit long term. I think he's gonna have a great summer and work out really hard.

Philadelphia is in a different position than Minnesota. They may not want to commit that much money on a player that may not contribute to their rebuild.
And why wouldn’t they want to commit to “a really good player”?

He’s fairly young, supposedly really good. What’s there not to build around?

Because they could sign Rossi for cheaper than what they give up? Because Minnesota has signaled they aren't committing to Rossi and may not match contract.

Signing Rossi to a 5 year x 7 million only nets Minnesota a 2026 first and a 2026 3rd. Would Minnesota match?

Agree with bridging him if they are still unsure of his abilities, but I can see Rossi thinking that he might be better off elsewhere, if Hynes & Co think that Freddy Gaudreau deserves a spot higher in the lineup than he does.

I hate it here
I truly don’t understand what Guerin is doing. This is the type of contract that can look absolutely fantastic in a couple years (as showcased by Boldy). There’s minimal downside risk with the cap going up and Rossi already proving he’s capable of producing as a Top 6 player.

Rossi has done everything right and he’s been treated like shit. I’m sick of seeing this reoccurring theme every offseason from Guerin.

Worst case scenario, sign him to a contract, showcase him, and then move him later after you inflate his value.

I think the problem is Guerin's ego is bigger than his brain. He doesn't wanna play the game. He already said he doesn't try to win trades. I don't trust him at all to actually get full value for Rossi because he doesn't value him like he should and he's not smart enough to try to get more value out of a trade.

He does the same thing with contracts. Won't budge an inch if he isn't enamored with a player, but when he is (Foligno), he'll overpay instantly as his initial offer to the guy.

I've said before, I don't think any of these things are necessarily bad qualities in a GM, but I do believe Guerin is terrible at evaluating players and and what's needed to win, and that's what makes the aforementioned a dangerous quality.

I don't know if they would or not. It's be a good top pick maybe. But teams can be unpredictable and I don't think a top 10 pick would help Minnesota other than maybe trade bait?
I think you justify it as a pretty decent lotto ticket in a potential franchise-changer draft. You can sell it with where Philly finished this year.

7x7 is verging on overpayment.
With where the cap is heading you could see plugs like Trenin being paid same or more than Rossi in like year 4-5 of that deal while he’s in his prime.

I think 7x7 is fair but if I’m Rossi I’d take the 5x2 and bet on myself. If he improves from where’s he’s at now in any meaningful way he’s getting 9-10m on a long term deal else where and he doesn’t have to deal with disgusting inept shitstains like Hynes or Guerin as an added bonus.

Here are the teams that have their 1st and 3rd for an offersheet:

Anaheim
Boston
Buffalo
Columbus
Calgary
Chicago
Detroit
Los Angeles
Montreal
Nashville
New Jersey
NY Islanders
NY Rangers
Ottawa
Philadelphia
Pittsburgh
Seattle
St Louis
Utah
Winnipeg

Out of those teams, which ones wouldn’t intrigue you at least a little bit to have their unprotected 1st? I have Los Angeles, New Jersey, Ottawa, St Louis, Utah and Winnipeg. The rest I’m not sure I would match an offersheet.

$7M is the tippy top AAV I would be willing to give Rossi. $9-10M is insane.

I don't see how it could be unless you think he's already peaked. 7x7 is what players in his situation get and that's without considering the exploding salary cap.
I don’t see an aspect of his game that could improve enough to make him worth more than $7M per season.
