This is really going to be something.

I'm all for the team still winning and hope that they do. I have no playoff expectations at this point, though.

For what exactly? False hope? The season is cooked. Hopefully management doesn't delude itself into thinking we're still in it.

As if any of these gutless clowns are going to do anything.

And is Katz ever going to come down from his ivory tower and realize that his team is about to lose McDavid and Draisaitl?

Oh yeah, McDavid and Drai can still win some awards.

I know it's not what everyone wants, but it would still be a good consolation prize for such a wonky season. Hoping for a good game from them.

I don't want either them to win any award. I'm tired of cheering for individual glory for players. Go win a playoff series or two. Hell, even a playoff game win would be a novel concept.

Hopefully neither wins an award if they don't make the playoffs. Agree

Starting this game, we need to bang out 5-6 wins in a row to even stand a chance. This is beyond f***ed up

harsh but I understand, maybe it will wake them up a bit more if they don't take home any hardware. I would still like to see it however.

Strangely enough they agree with you, thus their dropped down performance to also rans. Neither is getting the scoring title, or rocket richard, or anything, and I'm pretty OK with that. One of our players could be a lock for Lady Byng though..

Unfortunately their winning awards and the team's underperformance are connected.

Their numbers are bolstered partly by needing to play SO MUCH icetime every game, simply because there isn't enough secondary to keep the team afloat. And then there's the much-debated defensive responsibilities, which may indeed hurt their offensive production but depending on who you talk to, may be a necessary change to redirect this team.

Looking back, pushing for 100 points for McDavid was 100% the wrong move. For the last 3 weeks of the season when it was pretty clear they were going to finish 2nd or 3rd and likely be facing Winnipeg or possibly Montreal, the focus should have been getting guys focussed on details, getting some guys a bit of rest (not necessarily sitting games out but 15 minutes instead of 22 minutes) and building up the games of the back half of the roster (by getting them more than 6 minutes a game) to prepare for the grind.

Instead it was a full on assault of trying to run up scores to get McPoints no matter how many minutes it took and once they had to flick the switch into playoff mode, they couldn't get into the right mindset quick enough in that playoffs need dirty goals much moreso than pretty goals.

8 losses is the absolute max they can have
Right and a little luck can go a long way too. This team seems to never have any. Everything that could go wrong has this season. A massive losing streak . Sub 900 goaltending for a good stretch. McDavid playing the worst hockey of his career. The injuries we have with RNH and Jesse have really hurt and the timing of it is sickening in itself. With that said, this team never really looked like a playoff caliber team. Their powerplay bailed them out early in the season but the team didn't look that great then. Played "soft " right from the start.

I'm OK with the lack of awards, but I'm not thrilled about the rocket going to Matthews again. It will just make Leaf fans and media even more unsufferable. I'd rather someone like Kreider, Ovi, or even Pastrnak take it.
