Columbus fan here. Saad is on the trade block and Girardi is a Torts player.

Would you guys do Girardi for Saad +? Most I would be willing to throw in is a secound

The + could be pretty much anything (maybe not Hartnell or Dubinsky) and I'd do it as a Rangers fan.

I'm absolutely ecstatic with the way this team is playing. Having said that, I know that these two have contracts that are anchors and I would HATE to protect either one of them in the expansion draft. Besides, we're gearing up for Shattenkirk and we need to shed some salary! :P
They've both increased their trade value (though it couldn't have been any lower prior to the season starting).

What could we realistically get for either or both of them? I'd like to shed some salary here.

Forget shedding salary. The objective is to move a D with nmc, even if you have to bribe

The cap hit would be a problem for most teams. Both have NMCs. Rangers or team taking them on will have to protect them.

NMC is worse.
No denying must be protected.
Thus the bribe, only ? is how much overpay from competitive bidders for the overpay gain.

Girardi won't be going anywhere but Staal certainly still has small value even with the expansion draft. That said, neither would be moved this year. People will ask for additional roster players with them and offer back a defenseman that is of the same level of play of Staal or worse - which is entirely pointless, especially right now.

I could live with that depending on specifics, but the player coming back MUST not have NMC, can be exposed.

You're not going to be able to just shed his cap.

Best I can do is...

Lupul - 2.625 (50%) for 1.5 years

for

Staal 2.85 (50%) for 4.5 years

You'll only save 225K for the next 1.5 years but if Lupul stays on LTIR then you'll save then you'll only be on the hook for 2.85 for 4.5 years after instead of having 5.7 cap hit.

Yes, that contract is that bad.

We can do better for Staal, even with the NMC, a real hockey trade

Girardi for Lupul 1 for 1, + NY adds for extra year, and maybe a bit more cause Lupul does not have NMC, though that has to be adjusted because Lupul really should not be playing anymore, he is that bad, though acknowledged, it is chiefly injury, Girardi is better but he is a cracked kneecap away from chucking it all.

How are people even comparing Staal to Girardi? Girardi isnt even a NHL defensemen anymore, Staal is still a solid top 4. Staal´s contract isnt a problem, Girardi and his contract is the problem

Concur
Not that long ago, Staal was IMO the best pure shutdown D in the league
NOT best overall, best skater, best this, best that, just shutdown. Very effective Crosby etc.
Then got injured including eye.
More than a shadow of himself now, and still a solid 2nd pair, not 1st anymore.
But not what he was, sadly.
Still there are worse LDs, by a lot, playing now in NHL

Marc Staal is actually good. 1-1.5M less on his salary and hes a great piece to any team
concur

They will probably have another D Man (to be acquired before the deadline) that they will have to protect in the expansion draft. I would assume Klein will be unprotected.

Question.

If Stattenkirk is a UFA, does he have the right to say no to Vegas if the pick him up in the draft? If so, you play a game, and wait for the draft to pass before signing him...
Klein will be traded so we don't lose him for nothing.
As to ?, I am not sure, but my expectation is the last team who had a UFA playing for them cannot and should not be forced to protect an asset who is walking away, and they cannot force Shatty or similar UFA to play for Vegas if he doesn't want to. They may offer Vegas some special boost to help their chances, like extra time to negotiate with him first, offer an extra year to sign, something like that, but don't expect anything beyond that.

I see after being away for a day in the real world to pay the rent, this is what I come home to....

Oh dear G-d no. J2F might mislead some folks sometimes, but that's because he doesn't believe in the :sarcasm: emoji and ignores any citations of Poe's Law. bernmeister's actually serious. :scared:

Scared, are we?
Because I am serious!
Yeah, I may have my bad posts, and many given the large number of posts I've made.

However, the great majority in derision includes criticism over my being adamant about
moving Stepan, Girardi
and adamant about not moving Kreider, Miller, Hayes and Skjei, Graves, Nieves

put that in your pipe and smoke it!

bern would trade himself....
depends upon the return:laugh::)

you're still on waivers, and getting closer to irrevocable ;)

He would trade himself for young players and prospects only!
What, I should be dealt for has beens with nothing left in the tank?:shakehead
Foolish, foolish, meldie

I would do it for future considerations
go the back of the line behind SBOB

No midgets! That's how you become the Canadiens!
Glad to see someone is paying attention!

Let the record reflect that this edition of the world revolves around bernmeister was actually not instigated by him but by a few others...
and now back to this post, by order of bernmeister
