Girardi is untradeable unless prospects were going with him.

Guy's contract is so bad, and he is a pretty terrible defenseman.

Actually, he hasn't been that bad this year.

He's had his hiccups, but he hasn't been like he was last year.

I'd still move him, but he's been worlds better than last year.

I'd rather get the cap relief for this year and next. Besides, we have McDonagh, Skjei and Holden on the left side

Why? Team is playing great right now and Staal's improved play has been a big part of it, like it or not.

Columbus fan here. Saad is on the trade block and Girardi is a Torts player.

Would you guys do Girardi for Saad +? Most I would be willing to throw in is a secound

Only if we can get Jenner for Glass.

Thats ridicolous. Staal is still a top 4 defensemen. His contract isnt the problem. Girardi on other hand is a huge problem. He shouldnt even be playing anymore, he is the biggest anchor in the league

The issue with Staal is the term. Had he been a player with only 1+yrs left then he'd have vslue. The concern is in the years after when he becomes dead weight.

Well, isn't Saad signed until like 2049?

Your talking about an all star player under Torts. Saad and Werenski or nothing. Throw in a 1st on top of that and you can get Staal as well to complete the Tortorella collection. That **** is gonna be worth a lot of money on Ebay one day.

Staal is playing well right now but I'd trade him for a mid round pick to clear space. Preferably after the season.

Nobody wants Girardi.

Girardi compared to last year has been good actually, although he's still a major liability. Especially since AV refuses to rest him and play Clendening like he said was his plan. It's happened one time so far and Clendening has been very good when given the chance to play. I have a feeling Girardi will be willing to waive his NMC in order to be unprotected for the expansion draft to help the team. Let's be serious, Vegas will not be selecting Dan Girardi if he's unprotected.

Staal has mostly been night and day compared to last season, he's been solid. I think him having a full offseason of rest and training has had a major positive effect on him. I really wouldn't consider trading Staal at this point. In the offseason I would without a doubt since Graves should be ready by next year.

I dont agree at all that he has been good compared to last season. He has had a few games at the start where he was a little less horrible than he usually is but thats still a very bad game. He is the biggest anchor in the league even on "good" nights. As u said, he is a huge liability.

His shot-attempt stats are not very good, but I think categorically he's been making better and more frequent stretch passes out of his zone and has been making good pinches in the offensive zone.

If you only look at shot attempts, then yes he's been bad. I personally think he's playing well enough to be a good 5/6 defenseman.

Everyone has their opinion but i completely disagree. He cant keep up when other teams players go with speed on the outside, if they move the puck low in the sone he cant keep up at all when they cycle the puck.
My main problem when people say "i still think he is a decent 5/6" is that we have a guy in the pressbox in Clendening who is a much better player than Girardi imo and much more fitted for our style of play and the way teams play in the NHL in 2016. If Clendening is considered a #7 defensemen by AV, i just dont see how Girardi is anything close to a #5 defensemen. We bleed shots and are stuck in our defensive sone just an extreme amount of time with Girardi on the ice. His bad Corsi% isnt because other teams just shoot from everywhere or something like that, its directly linked to him not beeing able to move the puck out of our sone and not winning battles in his own sone. The biggest problem is how much of an anchor he is for Mcdonagh. Mcdonagh doesnt play to his potential because of Girardi. I appreciate everything he has done for us, but its time to stop this stupidity now. He is major liability and he is a huge problem. He is done at NHL level imo.

Buy him out in the summer prior to the expansion draft, take the 2,6,3,6 and 3m or something cap hit for the three next years which gives us around 2,5 mill cap relief a year. The last three years of the buyout the cap hit is just above 1 mill which is worth it. Buy him out, expose Nash at the draft if we think we can sign Shattenkirk and we have our top pair RH defensemen and we have unreal forward depth so the cap relief of exposing Nash is worth it if that gives us the space to sign Shatty.

Why are you lumping Staal and Girardi together?

Girardi is no longer a quality NHLer, he's done.

Staal had a bad year last season, but has bounced back nicely and is performing as an adequate 2nd pairing guy. He still has zero offense, but he's been good overall. He's overpaid, but oh well on that front. I think he's going nowhere any time soon.
