I like the player but honestly I see another 4th liner grinder type who can play up on occasion, kind of like Lazar, Nosek, and this year's Nick Foligno. He'll probably be good enough to replace Lazar on a cheaper cap hit, as I'm assuming Lazar will have priced himself out of Boston this coming offseason. I don't see him as a Smith replacement at all.
McLaughlin has far better vision and imagination with the puck than Nosek/Lazar or Foligno, I see him as a nice 3rd liner

Ideal 4th line next year
Deslauriers-Beecher-McLaughlin

Size, speed, solid defensively with some aggression in Beecher and Deslauriers

I can't see this team bringing in external 3rd/4th line players for next year, unless they deal a few

History says otherwise. I think Sweeney has made a move bringing in an extra 4th liner or two just about every offseason. Rinaldo, Schaller, Chris Wagner, Riley Nash, Nordstrom, Nosek, Lazar ( TDL pickup ), tweener types in Hayes and Foligno that ended up on the 4th line because of declining skills.

But last year he absolutely loaded up with them, and thus still have a surplus of these guys for next year, unless some go

I am not sure what player you are watching?
At best, he is a 4th liner, AHL depth player that has very limited offensive skill and his skating is average on a good day.
We will see a big upgrade in speed and skill when Wahlstrom gets a chance to play instead of him.

Lets not worry about our 4th line, we need another forward that can score 25 goals plus on the top 6.
Geekie although he is playing better, is not the answer.
There are always plenty of options to fill the 4th line on 1M or less contracts.

I have said several times he is a #15\16F on depth chart, so I haven't a clue what your
point is, to me.

All I have said is its been 32 months since his player thread had been active, so I bump it noting he has goals in back to back games including a huge goal tonight.
He deserves a mention for contributing.

Who pissed in your Cheerios this morning?

He's been solid in largely unremarkable out there- the two goal streak is cool and good for him. I still don't see him as more than depth forward that is nice to have in the wings in case of injury. We have too many of those guys already and I think fairly or not, he is the first casualty (after Johnson) of bringing up one of the skill kids from Providence.

Don't know what you guys are talking about- his 6 goals in 22 career NHL games is 22goal pace for a season from the 4th line. He's their double super secret weapon.
Walstrom needs to get in the lineup and let's see what he has, and not at the expense of McLaughlin, give him a run until they can get a goals corer. I do not like ripping a guy like Brazeau, and always pull for guys like him, but he needs to come out, and he is also playing to high up in the line up.

Yeah I think Brazzeau is in Wahlstroms spot. Both need to be top 6 for the offensive opportunities.

A clutch goal last night from a player I never considered nhl talent. Pass the crow.
