With Murray in, im more concerned with his play than this singular games outcome. If we put effort in and murray is ok, but we lose its whatever, but I think Murray looking good matters much more in the long run
Errrry gezoalie who plays our people and humans are concerned. The only thing our management and coaching staffing was doing right this season was.... resting Samsonov. As he was and is our number one goalie, he should almost never play. Rarely. Cause he can get injured too. So why play him now.... let him rest and these others just stand there like ingelligent ones. They was trying to protect samsonov and not playing him almost at all... but even that failed. He got injured. We should have sat his ass down even more. That's the only way can stay as our number one.

It's going to be very interesting to see how Murray fares in this re-start. I thought in his go-round that there might be something up with his left shoulder. That may have healed during this time off.

What more does Steeves have to do to get a look? Or even Joey Anderson? I know they like Holmberg's versatility with his ability to play C, but Engvall has played well at C over the last week and it looks like Holmberg is being slotted at wing anyways...so what's the point? Steeves has earned a shot, he had a decent camp and has been on fire to start the AHL season, and also brings an element of physicality and grit. This love for Holmberg is rather strange considering that he's also older than Steeves.

And that's why Keefe likes him more. He's more experienced, and he plays the game like a vet as a young player. Safe, smart plays, short passes, hustles on the back check, finding himself in spots where the puck goes, etc. I think they see a player with NHL quality game and they want to see if they can pull more out of him. He's as good of a prospect as Grundstrum was at the time we dealt him.

Hopefully, Murray is able to make some adjustments to his glove hand. It could have been a little rust but it definitely didn't look great the 1st (and only) game this year. Until our offense gets back on track (assuming it ever does) were going to need better than average goaltending. To be fair, I think we've had better than average (or at the minimum - average) goaltending for most of the season.

I don't know if it's fair to say Samsonov was as expected. If anything, he's surpassed my expectations thus far. He's been very steady in net and has a .921 sv% which is in top level goalie territory. Now I don't believe he'll keep that up the whole season, but even if he finishes with ~.913-.915 that's still solid goaltending. He struggled pretty hard the last couple of seasons.
Short term he’s had some steady periods with Washington. He’ll exceed expectations if he does it all year and in the playoffs.

Benn had a good game on the weekend but he is very obviously a bandaid solution. I don't imagine they will be able to rely on him for any long stretch.

Muzzin is likely done unfortunately. It's time for Sandin and Liljegren to really step up and this team needs to go ahead and spend Muzzin's 5.6 to shore up the D.
Step up? Are you kidding me their both brutal

Play better and you'll stay in the lineup.
He certainly hasn't earned the right to have a spot handed to him.
Oh do you mean like when Dubass handed Sparks the backup job in net, how did that work out?

Terribly.
What does that have to do with Robertson earning his role?

been busy with other stuff just catching up on all the news. Muzzin out indefinitely -> sucks but health is important; so I hope he takes all the time and goes on LTIR for remainder of his contract if necessary

Brodie on IR is not good more so if that means an overdose of freakin' Holl on ice with even an increased TOI

Here is hoping both Lily and Sandin are allowed to make mistakes and learn without their TOI taken away that is the only way they will learn and that will serve us better in the future

Goalie situation was a hail mary to begin with anyway so..... :dunno:

its not just a yo-yo in and out of the line up but even when he was playing he was yo-yo'd on different lines. Not a good way to develop young guys IMO
Robertson has spoke about how sore he’s been playing in the NHL. I wonder if a situation where he’s in and out of the lineup until he learns the ropes might not be the worst thing for him. I don’t think he’s going to develop anymore at the AHL level.

hope so... need a few guys to step up. Lilly has been pretty good overall.

this seems a bit weird to me. I get the Keefe comment I mean its a PR stuff what's he going to say in media anyway...

the other stuff "learning about people" seems a bit off to me. I mean what are you learning this season and now that you haven't learned about the same people in the last 6 years or so?

you forgot 'and staying healthy!'

He literally got hurt before my eyes exactly one month ago when I was at Scotia Bank Arena for the game on Oct 15th.... I hope he can stay healthy!

Young players have to play to learn and develop. They are not going to develop in the pressbox IMO

Also, its a weird situation with the Leafs. They want to win it all i.e. want to go for the cup but then have young players like Lily, Sandin, Robertson still developing; bottom 6 forward group is a "who knows"; Holl has been terrible; Muzzin injured and Gio is aging; Brodie on IR also doesn't help

Goalie situation is a magic 8 ball we have no clue how it will play out.

If I was the GM this would be the perfect year to tone it down and go for picks while selling UFAs; this is not a stanley cup calibre team the way it is now.

Dubas' contract is also not renewed and rightly so IMO; so I'd prefer he not make any big moves in case he is fired impacting future of the franchise. At the same time you have Matthews and Nylander 2 years removed from being a UFA.

Its really poor planning and management IMO

From the way Sandin has played this year I have doubts he can step it up in brodie's absence

not disputing that but he was also yo-yo'd on the left side and then right side. For a young guy with not a lot of NHL experience I think that is asking too much

Let's all agree to give Murray a few games before forming court on him.

;) (yes I am a BATMAN nerd; and no I am not saying Murray is Batman lol)
