Very good article as many have said.

As much as I'd love Mackinnon or Jones... I want Reimer to have a good year. It is impossible for Reimer to have a good season and us still receiving a top 5 pick. If we do receive a top 5 pick then that means that we are back to square one in between the pipes. Maybe then, this following year we can grab a proven legit goaltender.

Same here I want this team to make the playoffs, I think we all want Reimer to do well. Most of us though are skeptical.

great article by Cox. I agree dont give up anything significant and we will listen. It would be best to get a bonified #1 goalie in the summer when we have some cap space and hopefully another blue chipper in the deck.

Agreed, NO WAY I give up any top prospects for Luongo.

Kadri
Gardiner
Reilly

None of them for a washed up Loungo who is nothing but a contract dump! It was so funny to see the Vancouver GM say that Luongo's contract is not an issue to trade him and that it is a great contract! HAHA! What a joke, the contract is terrible and Toronto should not touch it for free!

Maybe Komisarek or Connolly for him but even that... the contract is off limits, 10 years almost 60M, NO THANKS!

If VAN thinks they are getting a top prospect for a contract dump, they are mistaken.

If he has NMC next year,he can walk away for nothing. Why gamble on a guy who may not want to be here? If we can't resign him to an extension now he may get $8 million on the free market. My gut tells me an American who is shy, would rather play south of here with less media attention. He will always be reminded of that Boston trade as Seguin and Hamilton improve.IF Bozak gets traded,he may even follow him.Too risky, resign him or trade him.

My gut tells me you know nothing about Kessel outside of his citizenship and that you may just be very wrong here.

Great article. Are the new owners working on getting the fans aboard the tank?

Its better to tank and get a top 3 pick at the draft, hands down! This upcoming draft is crazy!

Leave Luongo eat that 5.3M in cap in Vancouver! Have fun paying that 60M! The last thing Toronto needs is someone elses garbage.

Totally Agree with this article..

For the next 5 years we would contend for the playoffs or narrowly miss..never a true contender..then we'd have a 38y/o with 5 years left on a contract that would hinder us..

Continue the tank and get a stud in the top 5 (Mac/Jones/Drouin/Monahan/Barkov)..trade Lupul for a mid 1st Rounder and try to pick up Domi....Trade Bozak for a 2nd...then package that with our second..move up a bit to get Fucale

Build Around
Kessel
JVR
Reilly
Gardiner
(Mac/Monahan/Drouin)

Then other solid pieces in
Kadri
Biggs
Percy
Blacker
Finn

This article is freaking great! I never liked Cox, but this article is kinda changing my mind...Those Leaf fans who think getting Lou will make us a playoff team should really read this...I don't want to make the playoffs and lose. I want to make the playoffs and have a good shot at winning the cup, and without a real rebuild and drafting our own players thats never going to happen! So, lets try to lose this year and get a top 5 pick and we might just have our future num 1C!. I hope Nonis is thinking the same! :D

Truly mind blowing why Cannucks fans expect to get good prospects and players for a 33 year old goalie on a 10 year contract, and help get them out from under that horrible contract, and cap hit. Seems many think he has a great contract, why not enjoy it for the 10 years?

I wish Cox wrote like this all the time. Solid article.

Vancouver should just take whatever the best offer is now. They can't start the season with Luongo on the team. If Schneider gets off to a slow start they've got a full scale circus on their hands.

You can't give the starting job to Schneider but then have Luongo (who was their former captain btw) looking over his shoulder. Ridiculous.

And they would have to play him to showcase he stills has it. If he starts slowly then what? Total chaos and a big circus.

I hate the idea of "rebuilding" but we have a lot of good pieces in the mix that given time I really do believe we can be a top contender team. And with next year draft I would not object to trading Kessel and Lupal for a first rounder each.

I also firmly believe Riemer has the potential to be a #1. If it doesn't happen then trade/draft for a young guy and start there. We still have Scrivens to look at and maybe get Bernier at the right price (i think we could get him pretty cheep).

Why trade for Luongo when we are not ready to for a deep drive into the playoffs?

I think Coxy is over evaluating our prospects. We currently stand in the bottom 10 of the league in the prospect pool and Louongo is an elite #1G we desperately see.

Not sure Kessel resigns actually. I like your plan. it would have been best with the two first pick we gave Boston for Kessel. In 5 years Kessel is done. That's why Burkie got fired.

It's honestly ridiculous, you can't even talk to them about their proposals or get them to change it because their heads are so clouded. Some on here are advocating trying to get Kadri+Finn+ first round pick.....Absolutely absurd thinking that they could get anywhere close to that. No way in hell.

I'm totally against tanking but in this case I'd like to see the Leafs stay clear of Luongo and just go with what they have. If they make the playoffs, well then the team is on the right track.

If they stink up the joint, it's only a half season and with such a deep draft, a solid prospect is pretty much a guarantee. Besides, the chance for a local boy to be drafted by the Leafs almost has me giddy.

Yup.

Avoiding taking on an older #1 goalie with a stupid contract is probably the right move if we can address the #1 center or #1 defence position with a young, restricted player.

The Luongo deal was a salary dump by Vancouver all along.

If the price they're looking for is Kadri/Gardiner or more I wouldn't deal with Gillis either.

He could walk for free.Nevertheless,Kessel for Perry,we need to get bigger and Perry is a 50 goal man.He could also help us lure in Getzlaf next summer.

Gillis in in La la land.

The way Kadri is playing I wouldn't do Luongo for him, straight up,yet alone a huge chip like Gardiner. If Vancouver starts out slow(no second line) look out!

Trading Kessel for a first rounder is a terrible idea. He is one of the only players in the league to consistently score 30+ goals a season and he is actually an amazing playmaker. I have a hard time envisioning a first rounder turning into a better player than Kessel (if he is out of the top 3).

I'd trade him only for a 1st rd, a 2nd rd and a 1st rd in 2014 ;)

I'd like Monahan. Sounds like the kind of player I like (responsible). Wanted Colin Wilson back in his day.
