Having a player like McKenna on an ELC for three years and the cap going up is a great opportunity for the leafs to add the depth and defense they’ve sorely needed

Depends what that poster meant by "one of the top teams in the East".
Do I think the Leafs have enough pieces to bounce back and be a playoff team? For sure. But when you use terms like "one of the top teams" then, IMO, you're talking about being one of maybe 3 or 4 favorite to come out of the East.

Montreal made the Conference finals 2 years after their rebuild had ended. Leafs were eliminated in the first round for most of their ten years, and two times in second rounds. So what are you trying to say?

Also, remember how promising things look for Toronto early when they lost to Washington in everyone’s rookie year? After not making the playoffs for a decade?
If you don’t remember, you should try to. Nothings guaranteed here, especially Montreal’s aspirations.
The Atlantic is a meat grinder, and will continue to be. This year was likely an anomaly.

I think what you said about bouncing back to being a potential playoff team is fair....
As far as being a top 3 or 4 team goes.........I mean if Stolarz can stay healthy and have a another monster year maybe....

Carolina gets the benefit of the doubt at 1, Florida likely rebounds as another team, and Tampa still has a lot of high end talent as the third.
You think Toronto will be better than all of the other teams in the East?
Their defense corps is one of the worst in the East currently (among teams with a legit shot at the playoffs) and the UFA D class is terrible. And they don't have much depth up front. Plus, they're relying on a healthy season from a perpetually injured goalie in Stolarz.
That seems to be three pretty crucial areas they've got big question marks in to put them ahead of the Ottawas, Montreals, Buffalos, Bostons and whatever Metro teams make improvements.

Absolutely. We are 1 year removed from the Leafs taking the Panthers to 7 games of the 2nd round and the only team to take them that far in a series. Absolutely smacked around the Sens too.
The Leafs are finally in a good position. The vet team of the east playoff teams (Tampa is cooked so are Panthers).

Oh I don’t disagree I’m just saying look at that roster I don’t know if I believe they can win on talent like in the past.
If they have a chance to make playoffs they’ll need to rely on more.

It's objectively hilarious how wrong you guys are about the Leafs. Honestly mind boggling but easily explained when people don't watch the team at all.
D is already halfway retooled not even July 1 yet and we are adding a superstar to the team plus already have a core of superstars in their prime and prospects tearing up the calder cup final.

A lot of things piled up to make last season what it was.
What gets easily forgotten and ignored by the haters are the Leafs were not some bottom feeder all year. They were still in a playoff spot in Jan even with all the injuries and the bad coaching and drama behind the scenes.
They only really "tanked" once the Olympics ended and Matthews had his season ended. They lost most of the remaining games which got them just barely enough to finish 5th last which ended up winning the lottery.
Just a new coach and system and health makes the Leafs a playoff team, nevermind these moves to retool the defense to be younger and more mobile.

I dont know why Toronto hired one of the dumbest and egotisitical coaches I've ever seen. His stupidity is generational but whats shocking is the ego that comes with it. Hated him with the Kings.
