Has anybody gone to watch a playoff game? I’ve been contemplating taking my 11 year old son on Wednesday but was wondering if it’s worth it? It seems like it could be an incredible experience but potentially a horrible one.

Was hoping people who have gone in the past would share some experiences. My main concerns are a couple obvious things like screen visibility, finding bathrooms and losing spots, arrival time etc.

Thanks in advance.

i went twice back in 2017 when we played washington and honestly it was fun, but i would never do it again.

the atmosphere is great and they have a few games for everyone, but if you get there at 6 and stay till around 10, your standing around for 4-5 hours in a group of people. Beer is still priced as if you were in the building, and in order to use a bathroom, you have to walk a few hundred feat away to the porta potty's, at which point youve lost your spot in the crowd.

Again i enjoyed when i went, but have no intention of ever going again

That was pretty much my biggest concern especially with an 11 year old. Thanks man good to hear.

I have a kid, 7yo boy, and I've gone to Maple Leaf Square for a game once (without him). Just my two cents: I would consider taking him for part of the game once he's around 10yo. But I don't think a pre-teen could handle an entire game there. The crowd is daunting, and can be hectic by the end of the game (win or lose). I'd suggest (or plan for myself) to listen to the end of the game on the radio on the drive home, or meet up with friends at a restaurant after the 1st period or something like that. Give the kid the memory of the event, but don't stay until he's overtired and begins to hate it.

Just my two cents. Every kid is different. And you're already smart for asking for suggestions.

Are they still limiting the capacity?
It'll be filling up soon.

I don’t know.

I was thinking about Wednesdays game. What time to even get there was also a concern. Definitely don’t want to stand there for hours before hand.

We have plans for wings and root beer locally for this one 😁

no lineups anymore which is good

Nice, enjoy your time watching, it goes by too quickly with kids.

Yes, and you had to reserve a free ticket via a link they sent out the other day (maybe yesterday). Not sure if they will have "tickets" at the gates.
Interesting, makes sense though.

LOOSE MOOSE!!

LETS GO!

its free. you get a similar if not better atmosphere from the arena. you even get to be on TV if you have a eye catching sign. whats not to like?

It's a great atmosphere but I would not do it again. I don't know if they have laid it out better but the bathrooms were on the south side and the only way to get there was to get through the hundreds of people that were pressed up against each other in front of the big screen. Needless to say, no one moved for you at all and that was quite obnoxious. It took me 45 minutes to get through that crowd to take a leak and I was so angry after that so I left halfway through the game. I hit the Scotland Yard on the Esplanade to finish watching the game. Plenty of options if you want to check it out and leave.

When are the passes available to the public? I' trying to go for game three but can't figure out exactly when I will have to be ready to secure a pass

Didn’t want to create a brand new topic, but it’s absolutely insane how much this place (and Toronto in general) has changed since they opened the new arena. I almost forgot about everything south of the Gardiner was an industrial wasteland only the last decade.

Before the current wave of development pushed south of the rail corridor in Downtown Toronto, all four corners of the York and Bremner intersection sat undeveloped, providing unobstructed sightlines towards the city's famed Financial District to the north. Back on August 12, 2006, things were just on the cusp of changing though as multiple developments were in the works for the area that would come to be known as the "South Core".

9 years later, and the area has been largely built out with new commercial and residential towers. Two office towers, the Southcore Financial Centre's 18 York and Telus House, now respectively anchor the northwest and northeast corners of the intersection, while still framing a portion of the Financial District skyline. Both buildings are connected to each other as well as Union Station via a new PATH route which includes a bridge running above York Street. Out of view in the image below, the mixed-use Maple Leaf Square development now occupies the southeast corner of the intersection, while the southwest corner has recently been used as a staging area for ÏCE Condos, and will eventually be the site of a new office tower.

Yup. That’s Toronto. And I’m not saying that in a bad way. It’s the biggest city in Toronto and naturally there is going to development.

I lived on queens quay in from 2008-2012 and during that time we would see condos coming up and slowly blocking up our view of the royal york.

i just wish the city knew how to handle the construction better.
