I had to borrow it. Whenever 20% of the town is employed by a mining company and Walmart is the fourth largest employer with a grand total of 30 people, they deserve only the finest hockey. All 5,000 people on this fine Manitoba-Saskatchewan border town are members of the ideal hockey market.

Albany gets told no hockey lol? Uhhh "greater" Albany has the Adirondack Thunder ECHL. After pro hockey the Albany area has RPI and Union DI hockey teams as well. Schenectady is getting ready to build a new arena at Mohawk Harbor for Union college. Albany has plenty of hockey. Glens Falls is not "Greater Albany." It's 45 miles up the Northway from America's Worst Sports Market™. It might be part of the Albany television market, but it's not part of the Metropolitan Statistical Area, and it's intellectually dishonest if not outright false to say that Glens Falls and Albany are one and the same.

For the Albany River Rats to exist the Adirondack Red Wings not only had to give it the nod but also had to be compensated because the River Rats were allowed the right to operate by the AHL within Adirondacks market rights per the AHL. Albany, Schenectady, Troy, Saratoga and Lake George (Glens Falls) are definitely recognized as the greater Capital Region....You can cherry pick or grasp for straws but you come up short lol.

By your logic, the AHL plays in New York City because there's a team in Bridgeport.

45 miles can be the same region sure. Pensacola and Fort Walton Beach/Destin are 46ish miles apart. They're in the panhandle but they're not the same area. No one from FWB says they're from the Pensacola area.

You also need an ownership who wants to own a team in that market (the FPHL, maybe not so much), and the arena would want to work with said group.

That said, there's no chance of a QMJHL team in Manchester.

The Q (or L if you're Quebecois) had an American team in Lewiston, Maine. They couldn't wait to get rid of it despite the area being arguably the most French town in America.

Ironically (in a convoluted sorta way), it might have been the proximity of the Lewiston market to Quebec that doomed the MAINEiacs. After 8 seasons of deficit spending by the Lewiston ownership (which included a 2006-2007 QMJHL championship title), they petitioned the League in 2011 to approve a franchise transfer to Boisbriand but the move was blocked by the short-lived Montréal Junior club. So the League owners decided to purchase the franchise, disband it, disperse the remaining MAINEiacs players, and award a new franchise to Sherbrooke ... which was where the Lewiston franchise came from in 2003.

The Q/L was once again whole & pure, and the League has shown no signs of wishing to expand again beyond Northeastern Canada. So good luck with Manchester turning that tide ... or any other tide ...

The AHL is not coming back to New England anymore than its going back to the Maritimes. So, any thought of the AHL going back to Manchester is a fallacy. It’s not going to happen. However, the ECHL returning to Manchester is a real possibility. It nearly came to fruition 2020-21 season, but it was blown up by none other than Brian Petrovek. The city had worked to put a consortium together to acquire an ECHL franchise with the Bruins. It hinged on Delaware North getting the pouring rights to the building, but during the process of getting the deal done, Petrovek, who would have been the face of the franchise, kept asking for concessions from Manchester. It became contentious, and got to the point where the Bruins began discussion with Danny Briere and Maine. Once that happen, investors in the consortium began withdrawing support to the point where it was no longer sustainable and the deal died. The Bruins opted to sign its affiliation agreement with Maine.

Since that time, Manchester’s Mayor has formed a committee to work toward finding a new fulltime tenant preferably hockey. The ECHL wants Manchester back, and Maine and Worcester have both issued statements of support for a franchise. It comes down to finding a consortium or single owner willing to put a franchise in that arena and absorb losses for the first several years.

Also, any new franchise in Manchester will have nothing to do with the Monarch name. It’s been ruined with how the Kings treated that fanbase.
