Thank god

This thread is funny to look back on a bit now.

I guess they conducted another review and let him go.

Yup. Confirmed in this interview.

Health and human performance consultant Dr. Harry Sese is no longer listed on the club’s website. Are you able to detail whether your club has made changes to the medical staff this summer?

Harry was a consultant for us last year. We promoted Roman Kaszczij from Abbotsford as our new head athletic trainer, and the addition to Alex Trinca from Pittsburgh.

Is Dr. Sese still consulting?

He’s not with us anymore, he’s with the PGA tour.

Probably for the best to not have a chiropractor focused person as the head of health/human performance..

I read that earlier too. We’re lacking a lot of information about a department very few have any knowledge of. It does seem odd that he’s in-charge part time. He did say during the conference that he makes recommendations for people to fill the newly opened and created positions so it could be they haven’t found someone to fill that role. Could be nothing. Could be something.

Turns out it was something!

Yay

We finally fired the Golf chiropractor out of Seattle

About franking time

Only took this idiot owner a few years to realize he shouldn’t be consulting on surgeries

i think people are focusing on the wrong thing with regards to pearson (and maybe boeser). a post surgical infection is down to the post-surgery treatment team, not the surgeon. presumably in the canucks case that's the trainers

Pure speculation but it's fully possible Pearson raised a concern with an infection and it was brushed off by team staff. Hence why Hughes says it wasn't handled well. Making this not so much about the surgery or complications but, as you said, post-surgery treatment.

It could be that, or it could be that he was given bad info/timelines from the surgeon. Or it could be that Pearson decided to work in his garden without wearing gloves. Or it could be that it was just bad luck and something that sometimes happens.

I don't think any of us really have any idea.

Remember the sleep doctor aqua Man brought in from Italy who was also highly involved in health and human performance but then he sued Aquilini for lack of payment
Even after he built his “mind room” for the team

I've seen this before with executives/owners who have little pet interests/alternative fixes from their personal life that work for them in their specific circumstances that then bring those to their organizations as surely it must work for everyone else the same way it worked for me, the very smart person who runs/owns this organization.

Ya I'm just not feeling it this season.
Too many weird vibes surrounding this team. I'm not impressed at all with this new regime and the moves they have made. Sure you wanna claim that the D is improved but i say nope. Same old same old garbage D with no mobility or speed to actually get themself in position to stand someone up on the blue line ,stop the cycle or clear the front of the net. Pettersson and Miller will feel the full effect of losing Horvat and not replacing that NHL center depth which is key in todays game, their on ice body language over the last couple of seasons have already proven to me that their not up the task.
Throw in a sh*t load of non playmaking wingers and a coach who is going to play "line salad" to start the season as he "figures it out" is a recipe for disaster.

I honesty only see a top 6 & top 4 D that I can count on one hand with and 18 other guys who you don't really want to give more than ten minutes of NHL ice time too.

I understand that a debt has to be paid for the Benning years and i think that 1st payment is due in just a couple of weeks.
Agreed.

I think there is a phenomenon taking place in HF Canucks where fans are sticking their heads in the sand and believing with all of their might that things will be different this year. Results don't seem to matter.

Nothing that management has done has vastly improved the team going into this season. There has been a fair amount of shuffling and a few gradual improvements, but nothing truly tangible imho.

Fans can downplay the fact that this season is make it or break it in terms of this core, but the Pettersson smoke isn't nothing, and if the Canucks don't make the playoffs yet again, Petey might just decide to check out.

And you know what? If that really is his mindset, I say good riddance. Individual awards don't mean anything if there's no chance to win a Cup.

Personally I don't downplay the importance of this season, I preferred a rebuild but if it's not happening (and I understand why not) then I've been okay with moves management has made and thinks it will add up to turning the ship around, getting us competitive with a little luck and some more shrewd moves I can see the foundation of a future contender in the next few years.

But I fully acknowledge that it could all flop and if it does, we'll likely lose Petersson, and IF that happens then I'd be okay with it if it starts a full rebuild if we don't have a core that is committed to doing what it takes to build a contender, and to be honest, I'd understand it because Benning wasted the best years of Petersson's and Hughes's careers, and we want winners on this team and I can't blame a winner for wanting to win.

Playoffs are probably close to a coin-flip this season all in, but they should have a better than average chance in my opinion, though that’s with the big IF that they avoid major or compounding injuries.

I do not have a lot of faith in the dressing room culture here, though, as they’ve folded as a group like cheap suits more times than I can count under multiple coaches. You’re basically hoping Tocchet is the magic tonic because nothing much else has changed in terms of key personnel outside of Horvat who was Mr. Bland anyway.

The reason I’d handicap the odds at about 50-50 (or less) is the abysmal depth and I find it hard to believe they won’t be dealing with key injuries at some point this year. Pure paper roster they’re probably a marginal playoff team.

Rutherford's quote that "everything needs to go right for the Canucks to make the playoffs this year" is interesting.

They're not banking on a playoff spot and their words aren't as strong as they were last year regarding playoffs.

I also find it interesting based off of what of Pettersson is rumoured to want which is playoffs or bust.

I think there's an avenue for the team to miss the playoffs and Pettersson still commits long term. If you separate the last few years for Vancouver into "on ice" and "off ice" both have been equally disastrous.

Even if the "on ice" falls short, if the "off ice" improves, no drama, the team has fun again etc. It isn't a nightmare season like Hughes described last year. If there's evidence the team has direction and is building to something, I think he'll stay.

You can agree with their direction or not. But you can look at the moves the new management team has made and they all make sense. You can see the logic behind them. They've all been reasonable in term and money. We don't really know but I imagine behind the scenes things are improving for the players as well. Players have expectations and are given actual direction.
(ie nobody has to get their stuff, the farm team has contact with NHL management and isn't treated like Siberia/Utica.)

I'm ranting like @theguardianII , time to wrap this post up.

The good news is that I think there are only 4 true "playoff teams" in the West. Where they still make it if things go wrong, and would take a lot going wrong to miss.
-Vegas
-Dallas
-Colorado
-Edmonton (with a healthy Mcdavid)

If we were in the East, the make the playoffs for Pettersson plan would be a long shot. It's really too bad we didn't let Benning go sooner. The west has been pretty wide open the last few years.

huge disrespect to los angeles and the central automatically gets a 3rd spot. personally i think vancouver need to better than at least one of seattle and calgary and all but two of st louis, nashville, minnesota, winnipeg and my dark horse playoff team: arizona

i think the only western teams with no hope are san jose and anaheim. i think even the blackhawks have got a shot

I don't disagree necessarily, though Pettersson could go any which way if they miss the playoffs. That being said, I think if you do shoot the lights out you may actually have a shot at a 7-8 year deal, whereas if you're mediocre and miss the playoffs regardless of any perceived culture changes, you're looking at a 3-4 year deal and he goes the Matthews route.

huge disrespect to los angeles

I look at LA's goaltending and think:

This can't be right it doesn't track with the win now only option because ep crew.

LA should be on this list and all these teams miss if things go really wrong, and have existing concerns already.

LA is the most overrated team in the west. Their goaltending sucks and the offense and defense are anchored by 2 guys that are 36 and 34 years old. Oh yeah they have PLD who is suppose to be this #1C guy who has never performed at that level and had a tendency to peace out.
They are instant bubble team if anything happens to Doughty and Kopitar. Yes any team is screwed if the 1C and 1D is hurt but most teams don’t have their 1C and 1D being in their 30’s which makes them more prone to injuries

I feel like hockey players have such significant variance in their game to game performance that I wonder why resting them isn’t more common.

I remember Gillis having some sort of algorithm or something with the doctors/data scientists that they could predict their upcoming Ws and Ls at a high rate given rest, etc, and that was 10-15 years ago. I don’t know how beneficial it is for guys to be playing 80 games or 15 games in 30 days.

Wonder what research teams have conducted on this internally, and what those results show

Forgot about Seattle. LA I question there goaltending but even with below average tending they are a playoff teams. I think the

I haven't check the rosters but it's the D core more than the goaltending. I mean no one looks at Adin Hull and think that's a goalie that carries you to a cup.

I'm not claiming to be an expert but even that appears to be underwhelming? Like the top end is great with Doughty and Gavrikov, and Brandt Clarke, but I wouldn't call them stacked or anything.
