Can you give me an example of a GM whose work you prefer and why you think his moves were better? If your reply is just because someone won the Stanley cup don't even bother.

Why would i bother with that pointless semantics debate.

No one has been able to explain why Dubas is a top tier manager - you included.

You are defending the Kadri and Sandin moves; Agreeing with running a tandem goaltending philosophy - Doubling down on all the moves that are reasons why the Maple Leafs never got to the next level. Why do people go to bat for this guy so hard? He is an adequate GM propped up to be a very valuable asset for management with no achievements.

As has been pointed out already, he doesn't need to be anything more than adequate to be sought after here.

Ok...

I no longer understand what you are even going for here...

Yes.

At worst he is an adequate GM who is forward thinking and has got where he is on merit not because he is part of the hockey men club.

I'm saying he's over-rated. Not trying to be confusing.

Tandem goaltending has been a thing for 15 years it isn't an example of forward thinking.

I'm with you in that I'll take Dubas over Craig Conroy

Aquilini was "absolutely livid" that Canucks picked Juolevi over Tkachuk

Good, it's not just us, the fans, that was livid. Some draft whisperer that Benning is, even FAQ can do better.

He kind of got screwed with COVID. If the cap kept going up like it did pre-COVID his core's contracts would not have looked so bad and he could have had more cap to support the core. With the limited space he had, he signed some good bargain basement contracts.

Based on the Shanahan press conference it sounds like the Leafs were going to re-up Dubas but Dubas had some doubts and then asked for more money when a deal was already made.
Not sure if the cap is the biggest problem for him. It looks like pro scouting is the bigger problem. Considering the amount of assets he spent over his tenure, it's bonkers that he was not able to really add another core piece, especially in goal.

I think some people really overate his process and ignore his execution. Process doesn't matter if improving execution is not part of the process and it looks like the execution didn't improve over his tenure.

It looks to me like Allvin still has this fanbase. But if it trades this 11th oa pick, I bet all of the experts will turn on this regime.

If they fail to dump significant cap this summer or have to pay out the nose to do it you'll see a lot more posters turn on them since they've made their bed in that regard gambling that they can dump for cheap.

Otherwise, however, this fanbase just suffered 8 years of intense pain and will give this group the benefit of the doubt if for no other reason than as a defense mechanism to continue fandom because the thought of another 8 years of pain is too much to bear.

Yet many moves made by Skeletor and Moleman are very JEB-esque.

Until Fredolini wise the f*** up, he'll have to forge another article about something like "Fredolini was LIVID by the Hronek trade".

Well, I guess that is true if that one big move clears out $15M in wasted cap space and returns two top-four defensemen and a 3C...so yeah just need one big move...and anything can happen.

you say this as a joke but since the hronek trade, the fate of next season rests on their ability to pull this off. vector and i wake up and ponder this prior to saying good morning to our s/o’s

and frankly anything less is a failure and should lead to firings

I don't think management's job should be on the line based on next season - but the year after is the big one for me based on a lot of contracts and comments.
Realistically the success or failure of next season will likely foreshadow 2 years from now anyways so it might be moot. If we narily miss the playoffs next year I'm not going to jump ship on this management - having another disastrous season is another story.
This idea that the Hronek trade says 'we are a top team and a playoff team' isn't what I think Alvin is thinking. Like I said, I think they're lining up for a couple years here. There's still annoying Benning contracts and players and I realize at some point you can't keep making excuses but I just don't think we're at that point yet.
