We're in trouble if this is what we're relying on to buoy this team.

Zero evidence of this.

I personally do not believe the Canucks are handcuffed at all. They have not asked him to waive his NMC, nor have they asked him which teams he would go to. There are reports that he has said he doesn't want to go to another Canadian market, but that leaves another 24 teams to negotiate with. Obviously he won't go to just any of them, but there is nothing that indicates he would only go to 1 or 2 teams.

My bad and I shouldn’t have been so specific by stating only 1 or 2 teams. I should have chosen my words better a used something like “a handful of teams “

We will have to agree to disagree on being handcuffed. I think we are and I think any team that has to trade a player with a NMC is handcuffed or at a disadvantage. Miller holds all the cards and he gets to choose where & when he’s traded.

I do hope they look at the core's success over the time they have been together and aren't going to sell the farm trying to get into the WC2 spot at all costs.

I am starting to consider all this rumor stuff is just Allvin using a public forum to threaten players with families either for motivation or compliance. As I have already posted he did this when pressuring Pettersson to sign earlier than EP wanted. Maybe it is something Tocchet suggested, I have heard him say players hate hearing their names in trade rumors. Another aspect is diversion, what else is happening but is buried by these trade rumors.

He does get to choose where he plays, but I don't think this is a Kesler situation where he's only saying 1 or 2 teams.

All it really takes is 2 teams for a bidding war, but if there are 4-5 teams he would go to that's enough that we should be able to get a decent return for him.

This fan base, owner and management team have crowned Pettersson King so he’s not going anywhere. We will live or die by the hands of this man whether we like it or not. The choice has been made.

To be fair that's what usually happens though. If our core players aren't good enough to lead us to the Cup then we won't win anyways. I think just about the only time a team can trade a franchise non-aging #1C and win a Cup is when that #1C is a prospect or rookie or you get a #1C in return (e.g. Quebec/Colorado trading Lindros and Sundin).
