The bright side of the D core is that we have 4 very solid D prospects (Willander, Kudryavtsev, Pettersson, Mynio). The D could look a lot better next year just by inserting Willander and Kudryavtsev in the top 6. Then one of Pettersson or Mynio to replace Soucy when his contract expires.

Kudryavtsev isn't playing in the top 6 next year.

Too bad so sad.

This is the way to salvage the season.

I know it sucks but were literally 1 or 2 solid D men from solidifying this team into something that can contend and we all know this is true.

We got a good team and everyone is working towards that but the ball is definitely in managements corner.

We’re not going to rebuild or think about 3 seasons down the road…it’s all about now and how this management group can get these guys going all at the same time.

You need to deal with this as this is the reality of our current Canucks.

We have to pay the price and we will pay the price but have confidence!

This Pro Scouting group is waaaaaaaay better than Jim Benning ever envisioned and has saved both Alvin & Jimmy multiple times.

I guess this is where we differ in our assessment of the team. I wouldn't go all in this season - this team has shown me nothing to suggest they are anything like last years. If anything they're the opposite.

Petey, Miller and Demko are huge question marks and haven't played anywhere near as good as last year.

Going all in this year just seems like a big mistake and reeks of desperation.

Kudryavtsev isn't playing in the top 6 next year.

You could be right but not sure what more he would need to do to get promoted. Looked great in NHL preseason, defence first player, leading the Abby D in scoring after being on the outside looking in to stay in the AHL, and is over 200 pounds so strength isn’t much of a concern.

Aquilinis, after Gillis, hired Linden as CEO; while Linden is a good dude, was way in over his head, should have trained first as an Asst. GM at very least. So Linden hired Benning. ....(skip) ... Then Aquilinis bring in the JR regime. It's all back to Franky. A lot of moves there. What's the deal?

What's the management style. The big picture.
Hire Gillis and become the best regular season team in the league two years in a row and playoffs 5 years in a row. Yes a pretty low bar compared to some other teams but the best next to Quinn's teams. Now one in a row looks good.

I didn't really read IMac's scripted interview with Allvin but it was pointed out to me one question he totally avoided which is odd.

From Imac's interview
"Sportsnet: Besides a Stanley Cup, what do you want to see from your team in 2025?

Allvin: Our identity has been very vague this (season). It hasn't been a clear path. If you don't have that, success is not sustainable long term. So what I would say is, I would like to see us playing our style and brand of hockey on a more consistent basis. I don't like to drive to the game and I don't know what I'm going to get. We need to play a certain way every night to be successful, and when we do, we're a good team. I would like to see us find our identity and consistency more. And then everything else will take care of itself."

There is no reference to the question at all, more a pray and hope answer. A search for the identity and consistency he destroyed in summer? Not even a reference to winning a Stanley Cup. Does that have any reference to how he is managing?

The core is stale
The core is the leadership
The leadership has a rift.
The leadership cannot fix itself as this has been building for YEARS.
The team has a losing mentality after most have been here for 7+ years together and years before that too.
Last year was a fluke, the Oilers starting off so badly, SJ, Anaheim tanking and Allvin getting a top pairing dman for a song with veteran dman Cole mentoring Juulsen, so a stouter than average defence corp.
They were gifted with 16+ points playing really bad (at the time) teams. Oilers - 8pts, SJ - 6pts, Ana - 8pts, Chi - 6pts, Pred - 6pts all those teams were really bad when played. 5 teams = 34pts. It is different this year though and the defence isn't nearly as good

Worst outcome is doing nothing and timing back the same mess next year. Guaranteed implosion of the Calgary style.

The situation is fascinating because while management will preach patience in terms of making movies, the reality is, they’ve already set their long term trajectory of competing over the next few years and there isn’t any easy way to alter that course.

There are ways outside of trading Hughes, they aren't exactly boxed in ... Boeser is a pending UFA, Demko, Pettersson, and Garland don't have movement clauses, they only have three defensemen under contract through 26-27, etc. Outside of Miller's NMC they can do a lot with the roster if they wanted.

Personally, I hope they do not overreact to this year, let the chips fall as they may, and do major roster surgery in the summer, if they intend to do it.
