We had some Benning friendly mods that tolerated POM baiting people for years and banned anyone who called him out on his shilling.

PoM's game was to bait folks, you're right, but the people who took the bait were the ones who got infractions or whatever.

Folks who just refuted his nonsense, either by looking into his post history or sourcing their claims were/are roundly ignored by him because he couldn't play his stupid game.

Has this management group actually made us worse? When they took over we had Miller Pettersson and Horvat down the middle and Hughes. Now we just have Pettersson and Hughes.
You can certainly argue this. Kind of unfair to list Horvat but not Hronek though.

Hronek hasnt looked good away from Hughes an

Pettersson has yet to play a game for us.
Hronek away from Hughes is such a small sample size though

I like Pettersson but don’t consider him a core player, he’s like 1 tier below that so I agree that listing him doesn’t make sense until he proves otherwise.

Hronek hasn't looked good with Hughes this year either. Or the back half of last year when he refused to shoot and kept deferring to Hughes to move the puck.

Pettersson is also better than Hronek, imo.

Hronek is highly overrated. Benefits from playing with Hughes. Not sure why he is used in core piece discussion. There's a reason the Wings sold high on him when they had the chance.

As someone who at one time thought Hansen to be a core player, I have a rather broad definition of core player. Core player to me mostly means a player to build around. Hronek's contract suggests he's a core player whether you agree that he's a core player or not. He's who we have, who we acquired, and who we signed long term.

Red Wings sold high but like some Red Wings fans said at the time of the trade, Hronek is the type of Dman they want when it is time to contend. I don't think that opinion has changed. Hronek isn't some superstar RHD but he is above average and hard to acquire.

The cap increase over the next 3 years.

Man, what a team could do with that.

Taking on bad contracts for top picks the longer the term the higher and more prospects and picks, retention for top picks, out bidding for top RFAs', trade and buyout contracts for picks

If already a contender, Select the best FA's to sign, Edmonton gets Rantenen, Marner? Vegas, LA, Minny?
Minny will have 30+ mil in cap space next year alone.

Lots of on demand pay games in the future, buy a season's worth for $500 to $750.

Hronek was absolutely fantastic before he got injured, the narrative was that he’d leveled up.

Yeah, WTF.

Hronek was absolutely fantastic before getting injured and has been great both with and without Hughes this year aside from his first 5 or so games after coming back from an injury.

Was great last night, carried a pairing in 25+ minutes of icetime.

Small October sample.

Now we've seen what he is away from Hughes when returning. Some grace for the injury of course, but the trade for MPetey to steady the 2nd pair is ringing the alarm here.

He's been a lot better with Hughes than without Hughes. On the year:

- His On-Ice xGA/60 is not at a top4 level (161st)
- His Rel xG% is not at a top4 level (145th) (V. Desharnhais is 146th)
- His opposition is good, but the quality of his teammates is excellent (77%/92%) (Hughes)
- Despite this, favourable deployment, his EV Offense has dipped below 50% (43%)

How do you reconcile that he's been great away from Hughes, but they traded for a #3LHD to carry the 2nd pairing?

The trade for Marcus Pettersson has everything to do with the fact that Carson Soucy and Derek Forbort were are 2LD and 3LD and nothing to do with Hronek.

Hronek has been fantastic this season, save for a few games after returning from injury. Played 25+ minutes with a rookie partner last night and was one of the best players on the ice.

Nothing to do with Hronek? No, that's not going to fly MS.

If he could carry the 2nd pair when Hughes-Myers was going, then the need for MPetey isn't as great as it is.

If he was fantastic on the year, can you explain the results he's been getting?

Hronek throws pucks away. Shot is near gone. Frobort has been strong in steadying his play, but that pairing is not a legit 2nd pairing and it's because Hronek hasn't presented as a strong #3 Dman that can carry a #5/#6 dman like Forbort.

I have literally no idea what you're watching. Hronek has been excellent this year, full stop.

Again, the literal biggest hole on the team was 2LD. We were probably the weakest team at 2LD in the entire NHL. This trade has nothing to do with who the 1RD is.

part of the reason Forbort has looked so good lately is because he's paired with Hronek and not Juulsen/Desharnais

It's also funny to credit the $1.5 million 3rd pairing guy who has never carried a pairing in his life for that pairing doing well instead of the actual impact player.

And Forbort is doing well, to be clear. But come on. Hronek is an excellent player, and the same people who complained about the trade in the first place and then complained that he couldn't carry a pairing last year are now complaining that Derek Forbort of all people is actually the reason Hronek is succeeding when he's playing well without Hughes. It's exhausting.

His been fine this year.

Hronek is underwater with 2 partners for xGF....Forbort and Soucy. That accounts for 130 minutes of playing time 5-on-5. The other 350-400 minutes he's well above water. Not to mention Hughes best numbers do come with Hronek. Overall he's 32nd in the NHL for xGF%.

He hasn't been spectacular like he was the first 50 games last year but he is a solid top 4 D-man. Very solid.

Unfortunately all signs point toward Soucy being the problem:

- Forbort looked pretty good even with those guys, but only because I think expectations have been set so low because Soucy was so much worse.

- Hronek has been great since coming back from injury except for the few games a couple weeks back that they paired him with Soucy.
