Management really bungled this season. The Pettersson deal is kind of emblematic of it to me.

Why did they wait until game 50 or whatever to make it? Everyone knew they needed to add another top-four defenseman. PIT has been signalling they're in sell mode the entire year. Marcus Pettersson is a JR guy. It was inevitable he was going to land in Vancouver. What took so long? They could have flipped their own 1st for him at any time (and I would have much preferred they traded their own 1st in this deal than the Rangers' - I will laugh when they've gifted McKenna to the Pens).

If they acquire Pettersson earlier, maybe the team has a better record and the bad vibes from Petey/Miller are mitigated, so they aren't forced into a trade either.

This season is on management.

Do we know if Pittsburgh would have traded MP at the beginning of the year for our 1st? If so, yeah, I'd agree, just not sure that deal was on the table.

Every one calmed down?

Garbage trades.

Sorry, but trading J T MILLER & a 1st that does not get you a legit # 2 C or a play driver # 3D with minimal defensive problems is a huge problem moving forward.

I think we made the wrong trade here.

As a pure hockey trade, we should have shipped Pettersson to Buffalo and fleeced them for everything they got.

The only thing that could make this worse is we give Pettersson a 6x5 contract like Myers.

Ohhhhhhhh how history repeats itself.

We didn't trade Miller and a 1st. We traded Miller and received Chytil, Pettersson, and O'Connor. We now have gained a #3 d man, a 2-3c, and a bottom-6 energy guy.

There's no guarantee that we'd be able to "fleece" Buffalo in a Pettersson trade, and trading Pettersson to Buffalo right before his NMC kicks in will likely damage our relation with the agent (The same agent who represents Hughes).

Also, Pettersson absolutely deserves a contract in that range given his play.

And you keep telling yourself that.

You know what? Their are no guarantees.

Life is truly like a box of chocolates

I think around November when the Penguins traded Eller for picks is when the Penguins were open for business in selling off pending UFAs.

PIT's been in sell mode since they fell into a black hole from the start of the season. Dubas has been pretty clear about getting younger and future-oriented assets.

I am reasonably confident Allvin/JR could have acquired Pettersson a lot sooner with VAN's own first round pick.

Anyone watch the Allvin press conference?

That was a bit weird was it not?

I’m thinking this gig might just be a little too much for him.
I fast forwarded but I thought he was fine. The ability to speak to/charm/deal with the media is really only a small part of the job and quite frankly irrelevant. Plus if you have a POHO who likes to talk to the media the ability to talk to the media and answer questions is even less important.
