Maaaaybe... just maybe... switch up the PP look?

We did it before and found success.

Zibs shot ain’t there right now. He can’t locate it. Maybe rotate tricheck on the left wall with possession to confuse the opposing pk.

Everything is telegraphed. Everyone knows Panarin and fox don’t shoot.

And that’s the issue. Teams are zeroing in on the Zibanejad one timer. Fox and Panarin, especially Fox at the top of the point, need to become more of a shooting threat to keep the PK honest and free up room for Zibanejad.

Halak stinks

Larry mentioned it last night but tragic they gave this guy a NMC to convince him to sign
I think the NMC is bad optics and probably buys Halak a little time. But they’ll get rid of him if they want to. He’ll have to be part of the discussion, but Drury will be able to do what’s needed.

Halak hasn’t been great but maybe try scoring more than 2 goals in a game your backup starts?
This too.

Panarin hasn't beat a goalie clean with his shot in a long time. Especially on the PP. Edit - Long time being relative, he did earlier in the year but is on quite the cold streak by his standards.

Feel like he used to frequently but can't remember seeing it in a long time.

Not sure if because he isn't shooting much or if its because he is missing.

Maybe we are becoming predictable? Maybe we aren’t quite getting the dirty goals and instead trying to be perfect. I think we have the size to create more havoc and win more battles in front. I think we gotta start getting rebound goals, screenshots. It’s not about trying to hit corners but score the unglamorous way. I bet if someone did a simple stat like what’s our record when we score a rebound vs not it would be clear how we need to play.
I agree. They are not giving the goalie enough to think about. The over-passing allows the goalie time to get a bead on the puck.
They look nice and the zone time stats are good. But the opposing goalies are too comfortable. We bring out the best in goalies.
That said, Anaheim’s defense is so bad the rangers looked like they were on the power play all game and I am dumbfounded they couldn’t get more than two past Gibson. I don’t even feel bad about it. Weird game.

You can't win a game? No worries, we got you.
You can't score a goal? No worries, we got you.
Your 1st game of your NHL career? No worries, we got you.
You can't stop the puck? No worries, we got you.
Your backup is playing? No worries, we got you.
Your special teams are struggling? No worries, we got you.
Your team is having bad luck? No worries, we got you

Every game you say the same thing and smugly shit on those who disagree with you. Advanced stats are helpful and I realize you live and die by them. But you crapped on me and others last year when we thought the team was good early on and now you’re shitting on us when we stink. Teams don’t lose all the time when they’re playing well and you seem to feel they are in more games than not. They have severe issues finishing, getting second and third chances, and breaking down at the worst times.
Not only that but also has started deleting comments that disagree with him. It's getting old...

What’s there to talk about? Halak is as bad of a Rangers netminder as I can remember. Completely unreliable and doesn’t know how to steal a win for his team. It’s not in his blood.
Why do we need our backup goalie to steal us a win against a team that hadn't won a regulation game in 20 so far this year?

And we're supposed to be a cup contender?!?

This fan base is so spoiled from the goalies that we've had from the last two decades.

No no no, you can't change the power play. Everybody told me to start of the season that we had to put or right-handed shot in the bumper position because we couldn't change anything on this power place so Vinny had to go on PP1. Evvvvverybody told me how crazy I was to suggest changing it and maybe putting Panarin in the bumper spot since he isn't going to shoot the puck anyway...

You're kidding right?

You have been deleting posts by people who disagree with you, mine and other posters included

You post snide remarks about not being willing to read posts that counter your posts, apparently It's too much work to read or you don't want to have to actually counter any points

You get pissy if someone calls your antics immature or questions you

And you absolutely express a tone/attitude to people that post legit concerns

This was a thing with us about two weeks ago and I backed off of it but now others are calling you out for it as well. This isn't mod mentality or anything. @TheBloodyNine got crushed here all last year by posters for what they claimed was blindly pessimistic but in all my reading was never truly condescending to anybody and would constantly backup his points. I don't know if maybe you don't realize it, but you have been acting very much like a narcissist and now that more people are starting to voice displeasure about it so maybe it would make sense to kind of reevaluate some of that behavior. No one cares that you have a different opinion, it's everything else...

Unfortunately the guy won't listen to any coach. Every single coach that has been here whether it's the head coaches or the assistance has begged and pleated him to play north south more and to shoot the puck more and to take the puck to the net more. He just won't do it. I was saying it all last year, I said it all during the summer, I said it all during camp, and people didn't want to listen to it because Panarin is a golden boy. He's immensely skilled, but if he's going to be a perimeter player that won't operate within the team plan then there's a bigger issue here
Cheers bud.

Re: PP1.

When they first started playing they were moving the puck extremely quickly and "improvising". Now they have stagnated into a set formula - the Zib blaster with the Kreider deflection as backup. Even opposing team commentators know exactly what to expect.

Time to unscramble their brains and get them "improvising" again. Another problem here is that Gallant is playing them too much so they all are knackered half the PP time.

As someone mentioned, opposing teams seem to be well coached coming into Rangers games -- they know the two plays Rangers will try.....one-timer from the left circle or back door play down low from a quick pass across the crease.

The problem with the Rangers PP setup is that as great as Fox is he's not a shooting threat up top, so teams really only have to prepare for a one-timer from one spot on the ice, which is Zibanejad. When Winnipeg used to run a similar PP they had Byfuglien or even Trouba up top and teams had to be cognizant of the shot from the point. Now they can collapse and take away that seam pass to Zibanejad without much concern. If the Rangers do acquire Kane or a LH shot I would like to see them put Zibanejad back in the bumper and Panarin on the left wall like they used to.

The guy who's built like gretzky should play like lemeiux? You can want him to be less perimeter in certain areas but he's never going to play a full N-S game. The guy has been a PPG player for the his entire career, he's an all-star, and you're telling me coaches are trying to get him to completely revamp his game?

We don't need our backup goalie to steal a win. We need him to make stops on unscreened 50 feet shots that aren't exactly blazing fast.

Zibanejad digging, shuffles it back to the point to Fox. Switches sides with Panarin, back to Fox, back to Panarin. He and Panarin play catch. Panarin cuts in, feeds Zibanejad one-timer, save by Wedgewood!

I don't think the PP1 understands what they do there, does not work 5on5.

If someone enters the zone, then peels back at the circle, that works on the PP, yet 5on5 they've just given the other team time to get into better defensive position. Panarin does that nearly every time he enters the zone.

Zbad too, to a lesser extent, will waste time looking for a play to develop instead of making a charge where the play develops because of his aggressiveness, which is non existent right now.

Chytil, Kreider, and again to a lesser extent Kakko are the only ones who take charge. Fox on D. They try stuff, they challenge the defender, everyone else defers, usually to no one who will take charge either.

Gretz had the sense to adapt/change if things weren't working. The more his cross ice passes get picked off, the more frustrated Panny gets and the more ill advised passes will be attempted till he gets one thru.

I'll agree that cross ice backhand passes are bad. But he's never going to attack the center of the ice effectively the way someone like laf or kakko theoretically can.
He does need to start shooting more though, the less he shoots the less defenders respect his shot.
