Malkin is the best Russian player ever

Is Malkin the best Russian player of all time? The best Russian NHLer? His competition is basically just Ovechkin. I don't see Fedorov as being their equal.

Strictly NHL, Fedorov was better. The best never even played in the NHL.

How many of these threads do we need?

I don't know. It's tough to compare Russian (and Czech/Slovak for that matter) players that have never played in NHL to those that have.

A case can be made for Malkin over Ovechkin, but it is by no means a clear cut win for Malkin. Malkin does have a good chance to end up above Fedorov and Bure. Assuming that Soviets are included as Russians, it's pretty difficult to make a case for Malkin over Makarov. No one dominated the other Russian forwards as Makarov did in his time, and Russia is consistently great at producing forwards. Fetisov and Tretiak are difficult for me to assess properly so I won't bother considering them vs Malkin. Kharlamov is another name that often pops up with regard to top Russian/Soviets, but it is difficult to separate him from his legend sometimes.

I mean Malkin is the best player of this generation

Sorry Crosby, he outscored you in 2 of the 3 times you guys won Cups

Geno Malkin: Greatest Russian NHLer in History

Since you guys really are enjoying my Sid thread, let's drop this one to the mix also....

3 Stanley Cups
1 Conn Smythe (though on these boards, guys think he got jobbed this year & last)
Calder Trophy
1 Hart Trophy
1 Ted Lindsey

I can't wait for the Ovechkin & Federov fan boys to start jumping all over this...but the truth is there, Malkin is far & away the best Russian NHLer of all time...

Fedorov still better,

Ovechkin can't be matched with his 500+ goals

If he keeps it at this pace, he will surpass Fedorov easily

I agree with the above. I'd vote for Tretiak but I'm biased because I'm a goalie.

Other than Fetisov who maybe should be considered the best Russian Defensman all time, I'm not sure OP factored in the Red army or if he meant "best Russians to ever play in the NHL"

I'm on your side in the Sid debate, but I'm taking Ovi over Malkin.

Why would you? Ovechkin is one dimensional, can't (won't) play defense, & can't get his team out of the 2nd round (even in years when they don't play us. Malkin plays an all-around complete game, is more talented than Ovechkin (I'll give Ovechkin the edge in goal scoring), & far more creative with the puck. Ovechkin plays a bull rush down the boards & cuts across the middle of the slot. Or he just one times on the PP. He's basically the modern day Brent Hull....

I think he is because he simply wants to be the best. Fedorov took a lot of nights off and leaving Detroit didn't help his legacy. What Fedorov did in 1994 may never happen again and is a testament to just how dominant he was when he wanted to be. One of the best skaters I've seen...his wide stride was a joy to watch.

Seriously, another Pens greatest of all time post? No wonder the rest of the league hates the Penguins.

Answer is easily no. Tretiak, Federov, Kharlamov, Fetisov, Makarov, Larionov. I'd even put Ovechkin ahead of Malkin at this point.

I'll copy and past my reply from the other "Malkin greatest Russian ever" post

Honestly I think he is. At his best he's as good as any, and he's basically as good as he ever was compared to Ovechkin who hasn't been the same since 2010, albeit still the best goal scorer in the league until this season. I know a lot of people put major stock into career totals, and those goals are hard to ignore with Ovechkin, but it comes down to the fact that Malkin has been a better player (when healthy atleast) than Ovechkin since 2010, and even in Ovechkin's 3 peak years Malkin was atleast very comparable to him for 2 of the 3.

I feel like you're saying this solely because of all the Pens threads. Sounds like your opinion is biases.
