If we can shut down Malkin, Crosby, Neal, Kunitz, Jokinen, Sutter we can shut down Kopitar, Gaborik, Carter, Richards and Stoll..

I'm extremely torn on who the better matchup would be. We would have an easier time defending LA in our own zone, against Chichago we'd be chasing the puck all night as the zip it around in our end. LA likes to cycle a bit more and throw pucks at the net. On the flip side, we'll have an easier time scoring against Chicago; Crawford isn't even in the same league as Quick/Lundqvist IMO and their defense outside of Keith/Seabrook is exposable. LA as a team from the net out defends as good as any other in the league.

Ultimately, I'd probably rather play Chicago but it's extremely close. Either way we need that series to go to game 6 5OT and game 7 6OT :)

The amount of factual stuff discussed on this board without bias or agenda is roughly .000001%. The geniuses of HF gave the Blues the cup at the deadline and gave it to someone else every day depending on the box scores the night before throughout the playoffs. They can all get bent, because this team can hang with anyone we split the season series 1-1 with the Kings but outscored them 3-2 and beat the Hawks twice. Regular season results don't mean a ton, but this isn't David vs Goliath.

neither team in the west is going to be able to handle our speed. play to the strengths and we've got this

That is why ending it yesterday was so important. Even better if the wcf goes 7 games. We will be rested and there is no reason not to come out flying on Wednesday and steal game 1 on the road.

yeah, ive watched a lot of their games. they are scoring a lot, but they are getting some really good bounces, and are scoring at a nearly impossible shooting percentage to maintain. teams shooting at unsustainably high percentages, particularly when they are mostly doing it on the PP can be EASILY shut down.

The Canadiens are the prime example of that.

The Difference between Los Angeles' 5 on 5 Goals scored VS The Rangers 5 on 5 Goals for is...ready for this? 3 goals.

Granted the Rangers have played 1 more game, but I'd argue we've faced far superior goaltending. Regardless, its nowhere near enough of a difference to scare me at all. The major difference is in their PP, or more specifically, our PP that went ice cold for 9 games. Theyve also scored 6 empty net goals to our 2. 16 PP goals to our 10.

Big difference between these 2 teams offensively has been the Kings PP (or the Rangers ice cold PP for half the playoffs) and their ability to score into empty nets.

5 on 5, theyre essentially even. And for the least penalized team in the NHL, the Rangers, I like our chances.

I agree with just about everything. But during these playoffs, we've spent the second most time killing penalties behind the Kings. If we can get back to our disciplined ways like in the regular season, I think we have a real good chance because of what you said.

Let everyone think we're gonna get crushed. Fine with me. On paper maybe we do bit games aren't played on paper. I like the underdog role.

is that per game or total?

it makes sense if its total...we've played the most amount of games of any team other than Los Angeles after tonight.

Holy **** it would be so sweet to win the cup and watch the main boards melt down.

Then again, they'd find a way to call it a fluke.

Games are not played on paper regardless of how much HF expects it to be. Games are played ON THE ICE, by MEN, who have different levels of desire, passion, focus & ability. Yes, we are underdogs, but we were also in the same position going into Pittsburgh & Montreal so everyone needs to sit back and watch how things play out.

This is NY. What can those haters on the main board say now that our own haters have not said year round? Those main board haters are strictly amateurs compared to the bashing we have heard here all year. so let them give us their best shot LOL :D

P.S. If their bashing comes across as weak as expected give them a link to Larry Brooks.

Not worried about Doughty. He will be much more worried about defending the speed of Kreider and Hagelin and won't be able to impact the game as much as he is used to. Wear him down. Kane is a phenomenal player, but playing against him isn't as taxing as being forced to keep up with Kreider or Hagelin night after night.

Much like Subban.

I feel like the hysteria on the main boards would be an all time high if this heaping pile of crap took down either a) the kings, who have the best goalie in the world, best dman in the world and best forward in the world, or b) the blackhawks "dyanasty" team

Hes in a different tier than Subban, hes actually good at defense. Doughty is pretty similar to McDonagh actually, he just has a more flashy game so HF orgasms over him

We need to link some of the Ranger players to the main-board thread. Will give them plenty of bulletin board material.

Our PP/PK differential is by FAR the best of the last 3 teams. Chicago and LA are around -13:30, NYR are +12:00.

Oops that is total. Rangers are averaging about 5.6 minutes of pk time per game in the playoffs. The average is about 6.0 minutes. This makes them the 7th least penalized team, with Chicago ranking 10th and L.A. 11th. They averaged around 4.7 minutes per game during the regular season which was good enough for 2nd. If they had been averaging 5.6 minutes during the regular season though, they would have been around 19th in the league. So they've been a little more undisciplined in the playoffs it seems, but it looks like they're still doing better than Chicago and L.A. in that department.

I think PP-PK time is the most telling. We draw more penalties than we take. Chicago and LA take more than they draw.

I think it would be if our powerplay were actually better than it currently is. We could get 5 more powerplays than the other team per game, but if we go through one of those powerplay droughts that we're so accustomed to, then it won't matter that we draw more than we take. L.A. won't need nearly as many opportunities to capitalize. Since the majority of our offence comes through our 5 on 5 play, and we are the better 5 on 5 team, I'm more concerned about the quantity of penalties we take.

how cares what they think?

Exactly. Canadians thought we had no chance after they beat Boston and what are they doing now. I remember red wings heavy favorite over devils in 95 and they got swept.

he's a much sicker wrist and slap shot. McD's D is better but Doughty's O is much better.

That's how I see it too ... like McD, Doughty makes the good play almost every time, skillfully but without a lot flash. He's a really good player.
