MAF gets a shutout and 3 standing ovations in final game in MTL

Reminds me of the 2003 world Juniors in Halifax when the US goalie got a huge ovation from the crowd for standing on his head in their 2-1 SF loss to Canada. He looked like he was surprised and a bit emotional from the response.

Why cheer for a guy who didn't want to play for you and also just beat you?
Do you really not understand why fans in Montreal are cheering for Marc-Andre Fleury on his farewell tour?

Like, I get if you mihg tnot like him personally, but how do you not understand why fans would cheer for him?

If there's one thing Montreal is great at its pumping the tires of mediocre players
Why even bother making these kind of class-less nonsense comments?

3 Stanley Cups
Vezina Trophy
Jennings Trophy
#2 all-time in wins.

Future HOF player playin his last game in his hometown....

Yeah, so mediocre.....

Has this been a thing his whole career in MTL or do they do this only on guys last laps?

Like was he always appreciated when he came into town?

I think when players of that caliber announce their retirement in season you'll see stuff like that on occasion. It's happened a few times in the past.

Fleury is also from Quebec, too. Not surprised on the tribute there, especially in Montreal.

You cannot be mediocre and be #2 all-time in wins. You just seem like a bitter fan of a rival team right now and it's sad.
Even if you consider him an average starter during his career, being able to play goalie in this league for 22 years is an incredible achievement by itself. Goalies are such voodoo and shooters are so good at figuring out weaknesses that tons of goalies find themselves out of the league within a few years. His longevity is incredible.

I never played team sports past the age of 13, so I can't say with confidence what kind of personality traits make a good coach.

That being said, a lot of goalies come across as space cadets compared to players of other positions. I can't see someone with personalities like Roy, Trotz or Mike Keenan being suitable to coach them.

Maybe I'm wrong.
Weirdly, there is does seem to be somewhat of a trend across many sports that great players often fail as coaches.

It is probably coincidence, but I do have a theory that star players often transcend fundamentals and therefore struggle to instill them in others.

Gretzky is the first to come to mind.
