I don't think we can keep running back to Sogaard even as our 4th goalie
He needs to go back to the AHL, stay healthy, and play well for the rest of the season.

After that, he needs to have a great off season and look good right from the beginning of camp. He is lost at the NHL level right now. Zero rebound control, zero presence and doesn't play the puck well.

This is probably going to deep, but I think that game against the Avs when he gave up the puck after the "icing" and we ended up losing, screwed him up.

there was a witch in the crowd that night... my theory.

Its going to take Sogaard more time and it will take patience and good coaching. I think Bierk the DJ holdover is coaching the goalies in Belleville.. that may have changed. He worked wonders get Matt Murray's game on track. Best to park him somewhere in the minors where he plays a lot ... Maybe the ECHL

I think we need to take a step back. He clearly isn't ready for the NHL. I am also concerned about his injuries but we have given up on goalies before like Gus who turned out good.

Yep. I don't believe we should give up on him, but he needs to get right.

His play at the AHL level has been very good at times, he needs to do that over a full season, without being injured, and then look like the same goalie at the NHL level.

He may be done, but he needs more time to try and putnit together.

There was a pp in the second that Sanderson had almost all his passes tipped. You’re the QB lol and all you do is play low risk passes. How does the other team get a stick on them as often as they do.
He's so passive on the PP. It's exhausting watching him immeditely defer to someone else whenever he has the puck in the offensive zone.

Merillainen has played in 16 games 3 NHL and 13 AHL games this season

Sogaard may have had an awful game, but its too early to write him off as having any value for the Sens.

Some more time in the AHL might help his development. Dude had to come in with a lot of pressure and didn't succeed, not the end of his development arc imo

I thought he was shaky for a while now.. He tends to over play pucks and lose his net. When he is on his game he can be a decent AHL goalie but they are in a lot of tight games down there and you want a goalie you can trust. Not sure what the answer for him is . He needs to work on his game while not costing his team wins. I prefer the way Merilainen plays the position.

He's got a one way deal next year and still can't be trusted as our 4th strong goalie, this is pretty much the point where you move on. He may eventually turn into something, but it likely won't be here.

Mads Sogaard has played 29 games at the NHL level.

He has one game (full game) in which he allowed one goal or less.

Leevi has the same stat but in just 5 games.

Agree, let's not be so quick to toss the goalie prospects under the bus.

We’ve been burned so often recently giving up on goalies that it makes you pause a bit that’s all.
Pretty much this. I think Sogaard is probably not going to be a starter here, but given our history with goalies it's easy to take a step back if one of the goalie prospects hit a bump in the road

He’s not ready

He never was ready

He never will be ready

Not NHL caliber

has not swag or the it factor to be an NHL goalie.

dude is lame as hell, move on already.
Are you talking about Gus or Daccord ?

Since it’s not the Melnyk era, let him split time in the AHL next year with Leevi, he can buy a few team dinners at BK.

Has anyone called him Slowgaard yet? Dude has so much trouble moving around…

I always feel bad about the bad goalie nicknames.

It’s such a thankless job.

Anyway, it’s funny but I feel a little guilty laughing about it.

He’s clearly not ready for the NHL and yet we are thrusting him in there.

It’s kind of like how I want to like Hamonic but when he’s in over his head it becomes difficult.
