The way I see it is Matthews has one of the best shots on the planet...when he gets the puck.

MacKinnon is one of the fastest, more explosive players on the planet.

One on one against each other has to be MacKinnon. Mac will always be first to the puck. And Macs mitts are sick. I think everyone here would agree with Macs speed and hands. One one one, Matthews never touches the puck and if he does, Mac takes it back pretty quick.
That’s pretty spot on.
The thing that bothers me is AM can carry the puck and be as explosive as Mack-at least he had shown it during his first two seasons.

Matthews was on pace for 64 goals last season over 82 games....potentially with damaged wrist for some of it. My choice is Matthews. Matthews could get 70 goals next year. U could make the case for either player.
Lets just wait to see how that wrist surgery turns out before we start with the overrated predictions for a player yet to score 50.

Last 2yrs

Even Strength:

Matthews (22-23): 17:55, 44gl/73pt pace
MacKinnon (24-25): 16:42, 25gl/72pt pace

Power Play

Matthews (22-23): 3:13, 15gls/26pts pace
MacKinnon (24-25): 4:08, 14gls/39pts pace

Matthews has averaged 49gls per 82gms so far in his career.

Right so predicting he will score 70 if far fetched.

I mean 70 goals is always far fetched but amazingly with Matthews its not that crazy to think about.

19: 40gl pace
20: 45gls pace
21: 45gls pace
22: 55gls pace
23: 65gls pace

I dont think thats true at all, Matthews is regularly one of the very best in the NHL at stripping the puck.

MacKinnon - Tk 16
- Gv 29

Matthews - Tk 47
- Gv 53

If anything, it would be MacKinnon chasing Mathews around trying to gain possession.

Oh hey just noticed Hyman had the 3rd worst takeaway-to-turnover ratio in the league there.

Matthews has clearly been the better player at every age group. It’s embarrassing to compare them year by year.

at 23 matthews was Better. Matthews is entering his prime.

matthews has been so much better year on year that he could literally stop playing for 2 years. And still start his season with more goals than mack

It’s not even close.
Not even close? What the....seriously?
If Matthews can turn into what Mac has turned into I would be very happy.

May as well add the Playoffs last 2 yrs
Mac 25 gms 17 g 23 a 40pts
AM 12 gms 3 g 9 a 12 pts

Overall playoffs
Mac 50 gms 28g 41a 61pts
AM 32 gms 13g 11a 24pts

What, the current Richard winner and Hart trophy runner up? For sure, that would be awesome.
Im a big supporter of AM so I think you are taking my post the wrong way. If AM with his talent can bring the drive and desire that Mac has brought into his game the last few years, he will be unstoppable. Better?

Yes he is good at stripping pucks...from tons of different players. MacKinnon on a one on one would own Matthews. Matthews would have to catch Mac to strip the puck and that isn't happening. And Mac has those silky slick hands. Not as easy as you think. One on one and I pick the winning horse and that is Mac....the guy almost as fast as a horse. Which makes me think...can a horse skate? Thats the bottom line. lol

There's plenty to love about Mackinnon's game. Throughout the season I was benchmarking Toronto to Colorado (among other contenders) to see where we would potentially line up with these opponents and it felt like Mackinnon was trending on a higher trajectory. But the way the Avs and Mackinnon were shut down by Vegas in the latter part of the second round leads me to think the gap might be overstated.

Matthews really falls off when you talk about the playoffs. That’s why the M&M defenders never want to include the playoffs. They only want to talk about the soft regular season

Interesting that Marner is not on any of those lists

True. He's never been a matthews level player and it boggled my mind that so many leafs fans thought he was.

He does make some lists tho.

Marner's chart from his "guess the player" section:

Not sure last season is a reliable determiner of what a normal year will be. McDavid got almost two ppg and I don't think he will improve on that, even with the soft Pacific. AM goes back to what I expect to be a defensively tougher Atlantic. If healthy I like him for the Richard but I don't see him getting 60, never mind 70. Now if they were to solve their pp suck all bets are off but there is no reason to believe Keefe has anything new to offer there so Edmonton or Tampa pp production may have to wait for the next coach. Since 2018 six NHL players have had more than 40 pp points. Matthews has never had more than 25 so there is a lot left on the table

Managing to have an injury free season would be a nice start as he often seems to be a slow starter after missing a few games. But they really need to fix the pp and I am not convinced Sandin is the answer,
