MacKinnon and Makar for sure. The gap between Makar and Nurse is big, and while the gap between McDavid and MacKinnon might be similar if McDavid keeps up his play from this year, I'd still rather have a top 3 player at both center and defense than the best center and a top 30 defenseman.

If it's "this year only" or even for only 2-3 years, Mack/Makar.

Where this is interesting is if it's for future career overall. Mack is somewhat close to McDavid today - but I still think McDavid will have the much better career with the gap growing a lot. He'll age much better, and maintain his level longer. So for career, the gap is very significant. But I don't particularly like Nurse (good player, but nothing spectacular, and also overpaid now) - and I really like Makar a lot, so tempted to pick Colorado duo even if it's for career.

Mack and Makar for me. The difference between McDavid and Mack is smaller than the one between Makar and Nurse.
No it’s not. (IMO) I’m going to guess this is an unpopular opinion.

McDaddy is 40 points better than Mack in a shortened season, where the name of their games is offense. Makar is better than Nurse for sure, but McDavid is incredible and I’ve seen both play live and not one soul in existence compares

If the NHL goes to the Olympics you might see all 4 out on the ice at the same time.

I think that's probably true if McDavid's play from this year continues. I don't think it was the case the couple years before that though so we'll see how it plays out. It should also be noted MacKinnon missed 8 games, so it was "only" 30 points better in a shortened season based on pace (and just over 40 over a full season). Still ridiculous obviously.

I do think having 2 of the best players in the league is probably more valuable than the best player and a really good one, even if the best is that much better than the rest. I don't know if just looking at gap between players is the best way to go about it.

Totals last year:

McDavid and Nurse = 141 points and +48
MacKinnon and Makar = 109 points and +39

Nurse had double the amount of goals as Makar and 7 more even strength points than Makar (although Makar did play less games). Not saying Nurse is a better player than Makar, as Makar is incredible but it's not this massive gap some are arguing.

The gap between McDavid and MacKinnon appears larger than the gap between Makar and Nurse.

If we're looking at contract and age, Cale might be the most valuable piece here. I'm trying really hard to think of the last time a 22 year old defenseman has shown as much as Cale has and I don't think anyone has from my time following hockey (1995+).

He's good but let's not exaggerate.

Adam Fox just won the Norris at age 22, not Makar
Erik Karlsson won one at age 21

And McDavid is immensely more valuable than Makar.

Makar is great and has tremendous upside, but he's not worth more than McDavid lol, nor even MacKinnon. Let's give it time...

The offensive difference between Nurse and Makar is not greater then the difference between McDavid and Mackinnon. Nurse is also more physical and better defensively.

This is McDavid and Nurse for me.

Lol

24 year 3 time Art Ross winner and the winner of 2 Hart trophy generational playerwith one of the best contracts in hockey is less valuable then the guy who lost to Adam Fox for the Norris....

Is this some illusion.

MacKinnon a better all around forward, Makar a better defenceman
