Value of: Mackenzie Weegar or Rasmus Andersson? Who would you trade for and what and/or who would you give up from your team?

We all know it will be the Rangers some how.

Schneider + Sykora/Emery + 1st/2nd + capdump for cap reasons.

or something.
A 23-year-old 2nd pairing RHD and two firsts for Rasmus Andersson to a team that already has a top RHD? That’s absurd.

I'd prefer Andersson. At least, from a Canucks perspective. Biggest thing, is that i think teams likely pay a premium for the "value added" with that dirt cheap contract...even if it doesn't have a bunch of term locked in. But the type of teams that i think would be in the market for this sort of player, tend to be pretty tight to the cap...and also have other long-term commitments already locked in. So Andersson being easier to fit under the cap for now, and offering a lot more "flexibility" and "options" going forward, is probably very enticing.

Sabres are already loaded with good young PMDs in Dahlin, Power and Byram. They lack a defensive specialist other than Samuelsson.

Sabres should be willing to give up a lot for Weegar. But the GM doesn't seem to view a veteran top 4 defensive specialist as a need.

Weegar is also unlikely to waive his NMC for the Sabres.

It's a move that makes a ton of sense, but will likely never happen.

Wouldn’t be so sure about that, he’s from Ontario so it’s a lot closer to home for him. And theoretically Buffalo ought to be closer to competing than Calgary is

I say theoretically because they are the Sabres after all

I don't think that's relevant. He has full control over where he goes so if he does waive he will want to choose a team that is already close to winning as is (ie Dallas). Calgary is teetering towards being behind every team in the league in terms of competing so being closer than them isn't exactly a reason to go to that specific team

I find Anderson overrated . Weegar is very clearly the guy there .
I could see them keeping Andersson a while to see if he can carry his pairing more.

Before the Flames sold off players last year they had one of the best and deepest defenses in the league. Hanifin, Tanev, Weegar, Andersson, Zadorov. I wonder if Andersson was inflated by being surrounded by that talent, and he definitely looked like a top pairing quality guy. But, Andersson seemed to struggle a lot more when the team was gutted, while Weegar stayed pretty much just as effective.

Weegar has been an underrated guy for awhile . Was really good of Florida but got overshadowed by some bigger names . Everyone noticed him when he popped 20 home but he’s been quietly excellent . I think Florida fans said he was a great player if he isn’t trying to be Bobby Orr , pretty complimentary on his exit . I find this pretty accurate ( ie he’s super effective when he keeps it simple ) . I’ve seen Anderson a lot , watched him in Junior ( I’m from Barrie ) and I’ve always thought his speed and decision making could be better .

All the more reason to let him bounce back before trading him

I wonder though. I bet there are teams willing to trade for him under an optimistic appraisal. Also Calgary might want to tank their team more to upgrade their draft picks. If an Andersson trade is inevitable it makes some sense

I don't think they're in any rush. He is under contract for this and next season on a steal of a deal. Big mobile RHD that can move the puck and clear crease. There will be lots of suitors.

Would rather they don't leave it too long like they did with Hanifin though, that one was really the only offload trade I don't think Conroy got good value on.

Imo they need to trade Andersson by this deadline. Rental values are overrated. Everyone knows Andersson is great. The extra year is a big asset that would yield extra return, just like how Nashville got a lot for Ekholm. Waiting just reduces the value, unless they have faith that he will play even better later

He's projected to be a C with size and good boots. Flames center pipeline is not good, and hasn't been good in a very long time. Teams just don't trade players that are projecting top line very often, and trade top line center prospects even less.

Plus there's a 1st in that guy's proposal and a cost controlled RFA RHD. I dunno wouldn't be over the moon thrilled but that seems like a quality package for a guy like Ras who will be looking for a big raise in 2026.
Maybe it's the recent trades with each other, or the fact that no team has made more trades the last two years, or the obvious fit but I think the nucks and flames dance together again.
RA would really cement the nucks dcorp and with 3.25 million in cap via LTIR and an open roster spot via waivers its not even a trade that would be difficult to facilitate.

I suck at values but do you think the flames brass would do a trade involving multiple high picks like two 1st, and say a prospect that isnt blue chipper but still has potential?
A guy like Linus Karlson likely tops out as a 3c and a pp2 guy.

So him, a 2025 and 2027 1st 1 .5 million retained?

That I would do.
I'm a fan of Rasmus and in a vacuum I think he's worth a top prospect and a 1st but with our window open now I'd try to offer multiple 1sts instead since we have Hronek and Willander, who play on the right side.

A couple of firsts to add not necessarily a need but would make us that much better makes sense to me.
But I get if flames management would want a pick and a prospect but then again two unprotected 1sts in 2025 and 2027 has its advantages since either pick could end up being a home run especially if injuries derail the nucks

Hes still a solid top 4 guy. but the cap is just a tad bit high, If Calagry retained 1.25 Mil for 6 years they'd get a lot more, But you usually dont want to tie up a retention spot, but you can always do a 3 team trade down the line.
“Solid top 4 guy”

L O effing L. He scored 20 goals last season and played great hockey. Weegar is a legit top pairing d man. You should watch him play sometime

Andersson at that quality and position and cap hit for two playoff runs is custom made for our window. We would probably need to pray for luck in the crease without additional hope though since I don't even think Andersson fits our cap yet in my proposal including Poolman.
The cap would depend on when the trade is made but as of now we 2.5 from tucker and we could bury whichever d he replaces in the minors saving another million, the longer we accrue space the easier it would be to fit him in.

Like I said earlier tho adding him is more of a luxury, we need 1 more RHD but he's a borderline #1 l.
Giving up Lekkerimakki for a luxury is something I can't wrap my head around and considering Hronek who is just as good and younger only cost a 1st and a second, a couple of firsts seems pretty fair.

Anyone dumb enough to fall into the trap of a 30 year old dman suddenly doubling his career shooting% deserves what they get.

Weegar is excellent. But anyone expecting him to get to 20 goals again will be very disappointed

Value is probably fairly close, but the Flames have been notoriously impatient over the years. Conroy seems to have broke the mold on that but I would suspect he still has ownership pressure to get back to the playoffs sooner rather than later. So for that reason if there were two offers of similar overall value, they would go with the one that is more likely to yield results quicker.

Weegar is the better dman. He could be a #1 on a lot of teams whereas Andersson is more of a #2-3.
Weegar is not a #1. He is an elite #2 in the same way Toews is. He is not a primary driver of offense from the blue line but is reliable everywhere on the ice. He is better because he is more well rounded. Andersson is a low end #1 because he can be that primary offensive driver but he's more in line with guys like Sergachev and Chychrun in that regard. Offensively Andersson is a bit better than Weegar, Defensively Weegar is much better than Andersson (that does not mean Andersson is bad defensively, but instead that Weegar is that good).

I don't want either in Vancouver. Hronek is here long term. Hughes has three more years and you hope to extend him in 2026, if not you trade him. A 27 year old Hughes would command a ton in a trade.

They are good players but there is a cap and Vancouver while competitive can't gut their future. Slow and steady wins the race.
