Mackenzie to Florida

Now that I know it is even dumber imo. Jarmo must be one of those buyouts are stupid guys. Couldn't fit the last .9 or so over two years into the cap down the road if necessary. I mean the guy busted his ass for the Jackets. I sure hope the ???-Letestu-Boll line is as good as this past years' 4th line.

D Mac is 33 years old - no way to justify giving him 3 years.

It wouldn't have been smart for us to give him 3 years. We need to make room for our prospects in the next year or two.

Bad teams "make room." Good teams ice whoever is best available and make the young guys rise above.

He should have given Mackenzie the 3 years and if someone like Rychel or Wennberg really made a case have Boll be the first one bumped off the roster. Then Tropp. Then Mackenzie.

This. He'll be 36 and he already is banged up every season. My guess is JK wanted 1 or 2 years.

My guess is JK didn't want him. 2 yrs at 2 mill = 1.3 X 3. (Awaiting howls of dismay that we would consider paying a guy like D-Mac 2 mill a year for 2 years)

Jarmo has some weird fixation on young players / picks almost as if he's playing a video game or a poster here on HFBoards.

Are you advocating us go out and sign 30+ players instead of having up and comers like Wennberg earn their way on the team?

I'm advocating not holding a spot open and expecting them to fill it. Re-signing Mackenzie isn't "going out," it's keeping someone who is already here. He is here, he was doing his job well, don't kick him out until he either stops doing his job well or someone comes along and does it better.

Don't try to fix what isn't broken and our 4th line was working perfectly fine this year.

You act like we have no one on the team that can play on the 4th line. You would think we didn't bring back a 30 goal scorer with the way some of you are acting right now.

I love MacKenzie, but if we slide Letestu to center we have no less than 6-8 players who could be a 4th line wing.

It's also the easiest thing to trade for.

Then how else do you expect them to ever make the lineup? Jenner took the open spot Prospal left. Now Hjalmarsson, D'Amigo, Chaput, Wennberg, and Rychel will all compete for the spot MacKenzie leaves.

Injury fill in or beating them out in camp. We brought in Tropp and he apparently beat out Umberger during the season. So we scratched Umberger until we could trade him away in the summer.

Let's say Wennberg or Rychel is ready next year. How do you make room for them if you have a bunch of 4th liners signed for 2+ more years? It isn't like we didn't bring back a 2nd line guy expecting a prospect to take his place.

Exactly. Plus, they aren't being given a spot. They still have to earn it.

If the 4th liner is not better than Wennberg or Rychel, you waive them and either they get claimed or they play in the AHL where they apparently belong. I understand letting Nikitin go because we had guys like Goloubef step up last season and demonstrate that they were capable. Plus, Nikitin is making enough that you can't afford to pay him to play in the AHL.

Had no idea DMac was already 33... damn. Guess it was OK to let him walk

You mean you couldn't tell by the way the guy played? No hustle, no heart, just coasted. I mean he is ready for retirement. I'm surprised he even got a year, much less 3. :sarcasm:
