Will a woman ever play in the NHL? I think it's very possible at goalie. The trend to only pursue 6'2" and above limits the pool. Their skill would need to be off the chart.
Manon Rheaume tried out for Tampa Bay nearly 30 years ago and played in an exhibition game.....gave up 2 goals on 7 shots....which is no worse than what Louie Domingue did here.

I guess you know more about it than me. I'd have thought she would be better than that. She's big and strong and athletic and I'd guess she could easily beat the shit out of me. But I don't really know anything about it. :dunno:

Pound for pound men are much stronger than women due to testosterone (an incredibly potent hormone) levels, and the difference becomes even more exaggerated in trained athletes. This is why contact sports aren't coed as the difference becomes a safety issue. The increase in raw power translates to pretty much every athletic aspect of most sports.

Serena and Venus already played a guy ranked outside the top 200 and lost handily.

It's not a matter of spirit. I'm sure there are tons of women playing hockey that have more competitive drive than even some Coyotes. It's just chemistry and biology.

No there won't be. It's a unicorn, doesn't exist and will never exist. But hey, keep on dreaming. I just don't know why there has to be equal athletic competition? I enjoy watching sports because of the excitement to watch the struggle of two teams or individuals, it's great theatre. Which is why I only watched the 1st quarter of the college football game, because it was clear who was going to win the game.

We should celebrate sports for what it is and quit trying to make it about men/women. Just make it about sports because that's when sports is at it's best, creating dramatic finishes that lifts the human spirit.
Never claimed to be pro, or con on this. And DEFINITELY never made it about men/ women. BUT, if it’s about equal competition (as you want) and a female is of that level, why not?

Because there will never be a women on level with any professional athlete in their respective sports. Would never happen. Agility, Dexterity, Strength, Endurance, Speed, and you could add any other physical trait and it always favors the biology of men. That is just the way it is. And when XX was talking about Serena and Venus playing guys, they didn't win a game, or they just won a single game, it was like 6-1. It wasn't even close.

These are the best women in the world (Serena #1 and I think Eugenie Bouchard was in the top 20 at that time) and they look ridiculous trying to return serve.

I had no idea. I figured a pound of muscle was a pound of muscle and we were all pretty much the same.

Hey, I don't think it's ever going to happen either, but never say never. Not sure why you're so against the notions, despite the improbability.

It's true, the women's national team could for example beat an above average men's league team, but if you put the best against the best, it's not gonna happen sans some crazy exception.

Men have more muscle on average, but also among athletes men will build more muscle than women from exercise. But this is also interesting:

"According to the American Council on Exercise men have more type ll muscle fibers while women have more type l. Type ll muscle fibers ensure that men have a greater power output; while women, with their predominance of type l fibers, have a greater capacity for recovery than men."

It is going to make a difference, because - like I said before - sports are culturally rigidly siloed. I think all you have to do is read the thread to see how resistant a lot of fans are against having women in men's spaces. Ironically enough, you don't really hear people freaking out about men calling women's sports.

For me, Lyndsey Fry is someone who knows the game better than anyone around here ever will, and she's got a passion for the game and for the market and the loquacity to express it well. So I'm really looking forward to hearing her on the broadcasts.

So to put it in a blunt sense..... a few here are going through some sort of a masculinity crisis. :sarcasm:

I'm looking forward to listening to the game at work. That is if the reception is better than it was last year. If Meruelo only could just get 910 hooked up to one of those AM blowtorches across the border. :D

I like Lindsey and hopefully she will be good. All I care about when it comes to the talking heads is that they do a good job.
