LW Zack Ostapchuk - Vancouver Giants, WHL (2021, 39th, OTT)

It helps that he is playing with Sourdif and Lysell but it’s too early to tell if his draft rank wasn’t a reach.

Yeah, it was rather odd that he had a really slow start to the season.
He looked GREAT at Ottawa’s training camp earlier in the year, one of Ottawa’s standout performances for sure.
Glad he’s finding his offensive game again!

He has been on fire for the 8 seed Vancouver Giants who are poised to upset the number 1 seed Everett Silvertips.

2 goals, 13 points in 6 games so far. Him and Lysell look phenomenal out there.
Ended up with 3 more points in the game so he finished with 16 points in the 6 game series where Vancouver knocked out the #1 seed Silvertips.

Took him a while to get going but between his showing in camp and his play to finish the season he is certainly starting to look like the most promising piece from our 2021 draft. I think he has a great chance to be an NHLer and possibly one with some offensive punch.

He could have an outside shot at getting a handful of games to start the season. He will need to outplay a lot of guys above him and really have a spectacular camp but there are certainly spots to win all throughout the lineup.

Had a good, not great regular season; 26 goals, 40 points in 60 games,
but has been super impressive in the play-offs, WHL play-offs leading 17 points.

Yeah they threw a huge surprise in the 1st round,
but now, looks like they are going to get swept by the Blazers
in the second round.

He’s really crushed it in the 2nd half and then cranked it up again for the playoffs.
Weird he started so slowly, he was really really good in development camp for the Sens in the summer - coaches couldn’t say enough about him.

1+1 tonight including what stands right now as the go ahead goal in the third period. Having a truly amazing playoffs this far.

23 points in 11 playoff games. Leads all in playoff scoring.

Insane. More importantly, he's been a beast in faceoff circle and exhibits skillset that is very transferable to the NHL a big bodied, soft hand, creative C/LW with great wheels and can handle his own defensively.

I wonder how much Lysell is affecting his uptick in numbers. If elite talent is all this prospect needs to excel in a complimentary role, the Senators are in a great position to help facilitate his success.

Will play for Team Canada at the WJC. One of the more under the radar prospects in hockey at the moment.

Not a lot of talk on him here. I think there’s an argument that he’s Ottawas top prospect, though. Lots to suggest he will be a versatile, difficult to play against, middle 6er.

I liked Ostapchuk at the World Jrs in August, looking forward to December World Jrs.

He won't be an NHL scoring star, but looks big, strong, good IQ, defensively responsible, could anchor our 3rd line for years with Greig.

It's always hard to predict with the "middle skills, meat and potatoes guys", but if he was a prospect on my team, I would be excited. Kind of like Owen Beck. Will fly under the radar for other teams because they lack the top end offensive skills, but have a great shot at being an important part of your team moving foward.

This is pretty much the only guy in the Sens pool (Greig too but his non-stop injuries are a little concerning) where I look at him and go - "Yep, he's an NHL'er".

He's got all the traits you look for in a versatile young prospect. Speed, Size, high effort level, and a clear step above in skill-level at the junior level. Excited to see his progress.
