Last season he was more of a sniper, but now is developing into an all-around offensive threat player.

Reminds me of a smaller version of Evander Kane. We will definitely be seeing 30 goal seasons from him.

He's extremely versatile. IMO he'll have multiple 30 goal seasons while always being regarded for his defensive play.

His defensive play is still below-average. Nothing that makes him a liability, but enough that you can tell he needs some improvement. He does backcheck hard though, so that is a good sign.

His work ethic is outstanding, he'll do anything so his team can win, and I think that is a very under-valued aspect to a player. Definitely see him putting up 70+ points in his prime.

Really I found his defensive game above average to be honest. His positioning needs some work but he has the right instincts.

He has work ethic and potential to improve and WILL.

In my scouting report I had this, "Get's lost in the defensive zone at times."

In OT, game 7 you don't want anybody open or getting open from poor positioning.

That's about the only con I have on him, and to improve his skating by bit.

His defensive instincts are fine. Positions himself correctly in his own zone and you're right, he backchecks hard.

1:56 of this video is a solid example.

I have have him pegged as a slightly more skilled TJ Oshie...
hows that comparison sit with those that have watched him a lot more than I?

I'd say he's more skilled, but not as physical. He's been nicknamed the mini Hossa, based on game style + both coming from Portland I believe. so if he could become half the player Hossa is that's a win.

Doesn't remind me of Hossa, picture Logan Couture and Evander Kane put together, but a bit smaller.

Yea I agree but positioning is the easiest thing to learn as a player versus instincts.

He reminds me a LOT of Jeff Skinner...and i know that's what Renegade Stylings sees in him too.

I think maybe he' s a little more of a playmaker and a little less of a goal scorer then Skinner...but I think they are very similar

Never really thought about that before, probably a pretty good comparison. I always saw alot of similarities to Hossa's game.

He's about the same size as Mikael Granlund, perhaps a little heavier, who many folks claim is to small to be an impact NHL player.

Any similar concerns for Baertschi?

To think back when this pick happened, I was cheering that the flames picked sven over mark mcneill in the draft from an Oilers stand point

Flames got a beast who I think fits in the mold of a jeff skinner, jordan eberle type.. He's still got to prove it at the big level over a full season, but I think he's definitely deserving of the hype he's created for himself.

Canucks fan that watches a lot of WHL. His upside is very high. Wants to be great and has all the tools to do so. Flames fans are in for a treat with this kid.

He's quick, sees the game very well and has great hands. That plus his work ethic make him a slam dunk in my mind. Only thing Flames have to watch is how they develop him. Bringing him up to play with Backlund and Jackman 5 minutes a night would be terrible for him as it would ruin his confidence and stifle his creativity. He is a very good playmaker already, if they want him in the NHL it should be as a top 6 winger from the start. If they handle him right, look out he'll be an elite scorer at LW.

I really hope Hartley is smarter than that. Sven was excellent in his 5 games on the bottom 6 but will do him no good if he doesn't play with talented linemates. I'd rather see him in the AHL than on the 4th line.

From the miniature sample size i have seen of him, he has potential to take over as the Flames face of the franchise. Lets see him play some more before labeling him.
