Carolina is the only loser in this trade as I suppose they will have a moderately tougher time getting Nikishin over.
It suited teams like Ottawa or Columbus well enough in their situations but with Carolina being a fairly legitimate Cup contender I'd wager they would love a solid bottom pair D signed for 2 years at 925k next summer.If Nikishin continues to develop well he'll come at age 23-24. Good age to start NHL career for a defenseman. And he'll probably be all good for a top4 role like Zub and Gavrikov were.
