Good for Tufte glad hes getting some goals and hope he gets the recognition he deserves

He's off to an extremely slow start to his NCAA career.

Think his decision to play high school hockey vs. the USHL slowed his development down.

At this point, he seems like a 3 to 4 year NCAA player vs one who only needs 2 to be NHL ready. Stars are going to need to be patient with him.

"Sick" goal? It was a nice shot.

He's got a ways to go, and he might never get there. Too much aimless cruising, for me.

A player he gets compared to alot Nick Bjugstad is getting alot of hate from Florida fans for his play mainly in terms of defensive awareness and IQ. The worst thing for Tufte would be to get rushed into the NHL. I would say stay in college until he can be a difference maker and as soon as he's shown that move to the AHL to get used to the pro game. A similar path as Jankowski would be ideal but if he's ready in 2 or 3 years even better. It would be a huge mistake for him to go straight from college to the NHL.

How quick some people are to stop talking about highly drafted prospects if they aren't from teams like Philly or Toronto. Anyway's how has Tufte looked this season?

I haven't watched him this season (I don't follow college much hockey at all) but I know he scored this goal yesterday. All of his (4) goals have come on the PP this season. He's 2nd on his team in goals as well I noticed

Just stat-watching, he doesn't seem to be a world-beater or anything special.

He was drafted as a long-term project and hasn't seemed to do much to prove otherwise.

I saw someone compared him to Blake Wheeler but without the talent/skill lmao

If Nill wasn't so obsessed with big players then we could've had DeBrincat right now.

Tufte still has time but it's not looking too promising yet. Just at 20 years old though so maybe things will change in the next 3-4 years

Is there much upside with him? Or is he looking like a bust? Just going purely by stats, it looks unimpressive.

Who is a good NHL comparison?

He's only 21 and was taken in the late 1st as a project pick. I feel like you have to give him more time to make a judgement. I think there's still mid-6 potential. One thing to consider about his stats if you were just stat watching, he played on a stacked UMD team where he was on the 3rd line for a lot of the year. He still has a good toolkit.

I think the Stars will have a better idea of where he stands after this season playing for for Texas.

A stacked team where undrafted and late round picks in their 1st year or 2nd year at college are passing him (a late 1st) in his 3rd year of college. When a 1st round winger is in his 3rd year in the NCAA and is still 9th on his team in scoring, he's probably a bust.

19 points in 42 games on a high scoring team...how well will that translate to the AHL, let alone the NHL...

Dallas Stars Draft History at hockeydb.com

I mean look at those 1st round picks... Not much explanation needed.

Joel L'Esperance translated 44 games 27 points with Michigan Tech to 54 games 45 points (30 goals) with the Texas Stars

Am I high on Tufte? Not at all.. but I think people need to watch his game rather than stat watch.

If you are going to smack talk bad drafting.. this isn't the thread for it is my point. 25th results into very little year over year.
Yeah and my point was that the Stars missed on yet another 1st round pick... Which appears to be true for now.

L'esperance lead his team in points in his 3rd NCAA season. He was 4th in points in his final season, not 9th. And he was 9 points ahead of tufte.

And yes L'esperance had a good rookie season in the AHL, but he's still only considered to be a fringe NHL guy moving forward by most dallas fans I've spoken to. (I own L'esperance in my keeper fantasy league so I am invested in him)
Tufte, stat-wise is significantly behind L'esperance.

Takes up huge areas of space at 6’6” and by being a very good skater. I think I remember him being the regular season goal leader for his team one year and maybe PP goals? He’s also not one of the many little guy types that shy away in the more physical playoffs. Maybe a bottom 6, but a bottom 6 that will help you make a deep run!

Some of you only see stat lines.
