LOL at people who think Laine is getting sheltered at even strenght. Laine is obviously having some minor injury or something. During training yesterday his hand was being taped by trainers. I think his hand needs to be taped because of some injury. He had to go to locker few times in Liiga finals also. People need to start to use their brains here.. Why would Finland shelter Laine when he is so dominant player

Well there is many arguments displayed here why they would save him (save, not shelter). Though I personally have disagreed that it is a good idea. But not sure about that injury at all.If he had so bad injury he needs to skip alot of playing time, there is high chance he wouldn't be in the team.

I don`t know why would they shelter him against Germany when it is essential to get used to linemates etc at this point. I am not expert in these kind of things but I think that he has some injury and his hand needs to be taped and after a while the tape wears off and the procedure has to be done again. Well ok maybe the sheltering could be possible but I think it is unlikely.

EDIT: And to add to that the fact that he had to go to locker few times in liiga finals. Announcers were guessing what was the reason for that but they did not know.

It can't be sheltering, he is dominant on ice and scores all the time. It's saving his legs more likely. Maybe you mean it but it's so different thing.

Yes it can be that also. But in the Laine vs Matthews thread someone said that they might give Laine sheltered minutes meaning that Laine is a liability so I wanted to share my thoughts on that. (I cannot post there cause I got too enthustiastic yesterday answering some Toronto fans` "intelligent" posts concerning Laine.)

I think sheltered in the sense that his ES minutes have been low is fair. But a lot of his ES minutes have come in the defensive zone since he's with Barkov who they rely on to take those faceoffs. I think they should take Laine off of the Barkov line and give him more O Zone starts with either Koivu or Granlund.

Haha, sometimes when trying to level with them you just get a feeling of knocking on the dead wood. They're pretty good at creating a hostile environment.

That said, I sincerely hope that Leafs pass up on him and take Matthews or that Jets trade up for number one and pick him (they have tons of assets). I'd rather spend my days discussing about Laine with Jets fans rather than Leaf'ers. With Matthews involved it sometimes feels like speaking to 13 year olds and is pointless to raise a worthy debate as they blatantly ignore everything you say.

Anyway, this isn't up Leaf fans. Laine was just terrific once again. Creating something pretty much every time he entered the offensive zone. This alone speaks volumes about his hockey IQ. It's through the roofs, even while people tend to think of Laine as somekind of a elite sniper. He has the wits and is displaying them beautifully in the WHC. Patrik's been special and everyone already knew this, but no one would've ever guessed he only needed two games to break Jagr's record. That's insane. This guy has the sky as the ceiling almost literally.

Man, lets hope he's not injured badly and that he's able to keep this up. History's been made today.

I'd hardly suspect some Matthews fanboy opinions. Nothing to do with reality, some times. Definitely he isn't worth sheltering and what makes it bit funny is that we played against belarus and germany, sry. The whole versus topic is overheated and you cannot basically find good info from there now. I recommend reading jatkoaika. Also Laine side as well as Matthews side is overheated and when things hit the fan, it's just throwing "opininons" from potero, trying to make other look bad and other good.

Laine plays standard rotation with Barkov line.

Koivu's line is playing against the opponent top guns, because Koivu + Granlund + Aho are all defensively aware 2way players.

So no shelters, just 2nd line minutes against 2nd line opponents.

13-14mins is bottom6 minutes, not 2nd line.

Yeah, it's very funny that there are so many people here who "think" Laine is not as good as X, Y or Z. And he only has the shot, not IQ, not hockey sense, etc... He smashes those records with just good luck? He just randomly happens to do the right things time and again? People need to start asking themselves "am I thinking straight?".

I think he missed some shifts, not many but at least a couple.

The whole line got skipped in 3rd, first 8min no play for Laine.

And Laine isn't getting 2nd line minutes up to this point, it's 3rd liner. But he is scoring 1st liner points. He draw 2 penalties for germany and scored himself on those. He can undress defenders when attacking. He is underrated by Matthews fanboys (those who aren't realist).

Skating is one of Laine's greatest strenghts. When he gets explosiveness @ gym, he'll be treat to watch.

EDIT: And to add to that the fact that he had to go to locker few times in liiga finals. Announcers were guessing what was the reason for that but they did not know.

I remember when he went to the locker room couple of times in Liiga finals and it was to fix his skates, new blades or stuff like that. It was said by the commentators and he was tying the knots of his skates on the bench after he came back. Think that happened twice. Just seems like he has a tendency to break skates as a big guy or something. Who knows.

Not that it matters but just saying :).

No matter what Laine does in this tourney he is going second overall

His skating isn't At ovy's level but hey.Jamie Been isn't that fast so..

Nice pic :). Jagr's U18 point record is Laine's ***** indeed.
