Still think he should play RW. Nice deke and all but he often runs out of room on the left side before getting the shot off.
That finish was just filthy.. He was the best player in the period again, crazy good shift in the 2nd last minute and almost scored second goal, then passed Kuusela to break-away right after that.. just wow

I don't really understand the Lemeiux comparisons with Laine. I can see the Ovechkin/Kovalchuk comparisons a bit, but really I think the best comparable for Laine is Jagr.
Obviously Im not saying he'll be as good as Jagr, but I think that is the best comparable. The way Laine protects the puck with his massive frame and soft hands.. Very Jagr esque. Neither have blazing speed like Ovechkin did.
I think people see the huge one timer and immediately think Ovechkin/Kovalchuk, but that is just one facet of his game although it is a big one. He has that one timer, but overall I think Jagr is a better stylistic comparable for Laine.

I can see Jagr in him also stylistically, but his shot is so exceptional (like Ovi's) that its very natural to make the comparison. Imo its wrong to say that "it's just one facet of his game", it is THE facet of his game and if he succeeds in the NHL, his shot will be the most important factor in it.
Let the Laine gates be opened. I expect more goals from him this game.
Also no one mentioned that pass to Kuusela, but Kuusela didn't score. It could be 2+1 for Laine from this period alone.

Laine is dominant im creating scoring chances for himself. High iq so knows when to pass and where to be.

Yeah i mean none of these comparisons are 100% accurate. People are just picking up some elements in his game.
His style is a lot like Jagr's but he will never have the same strenght to shield the puck in the NHL so we will see a lot more dangles and stickhandling compared to Jagr (which i guess combined with his frame reminds people of Lemieux?). His shot is heavy and accurate (tbh i don't even think his shot is very comparable to Kovy/Ovie, they shoot it differently) and he will hit more than Jagr (who basically doesn't hit), but not as much as Ovie.
I mean, sometimes he even reminds me of Patty Kane how he glides with the puck and then suddenly turns towards the net.
All in all he's going to be an unique player.
Basically Patrik Laine is comparable to Patrik Laine

Ya, Jagr is one of the most iconic danglers the game has ever seen, along with guys like Lemieux, Datsuyk, Kane etc.

I have to agree totally with this one. Wake up guys! The Jagr that most of you are comparing Laine to is a completely different player than the Jagr that was the age Laine is now. That Jagr was all about dangling and very fast and powerful skating. And not really about the puck protecting game and amazing strength that it is about nowadays. He has been able to change his game and abilities almost completely. Shows great understanding of his strengths and weaknesses and how to change his game to overcome the weaknesses that age has brought him, by developing new strengths and using his great experience and understanding of the game.
But really most of you don't seem to realize at all what kind of a player the 18 year old Jagr was. I can say that he was practically totally different player than 18 year old Laine. People seem to also forget that Laine is about 3 inches taller and heavier than 18 year old Jagr was. Jagr's amazing strength was really developed much later.
Guys, try to really forget about what the complete and legendary players are nowadays, when you are comparing an 18 year old prospect. If you want to understand if he can be some day like a legend is right now, you should start with understanding exactly what kind of a player the legend was when he was 18, and forget everything he did and became after that.
