What happened to the hype train? I'm not even a huge Laine fan (character, not talent), but I really expect him to score closer to 30 than 20.

I think he is now discussed more on the Jets board instead of here. And people who have already made predictions don't feel the need to write them again.

I wouldn't be surprised by a 35 goal season.

Kind of meh to hype him when it'll be so long until we get to see him play and the draft is over as well.

I still don't understand these 10-15 goal predictions. He could score as many if all he did was stand still and wait for someone to pass him the puck for a one timer. Considering how much more his game consists of and the summer as well, the general level of predictions is baffling.

With the amount of hype he has, his comparisons to Selanne and Ovi... Anything under 30 is a disappointment.

Doubt too many Jets fans will be disappointed if he matches Ladd's numbers from last year.

Hype doesn't actually matter in the grand scheme of things. It's a product of the excitement people have to see him play and how he does.

Selanne scored 76, which should amount to at least 50 in this lower scoring league.
I get that Selanne was a little older when he entered the league so I'll lower my expectations slightly.
Anything less than 35 is a disappointment.

yeah right

Laine will be 18y throughout the season, if he puts up 30 it would be amazing.

To hit 30-35 he's really going to have to produce on the PP, as in being a featured performer. The pieces are certainly there for the Jets to have a top power play so he'll be in a good position to succeed.

Game has changed a lot since Selanne played. I say 20 is good, 25 goals would be upper tier to similar players in Laine's circumstances if he plays a full season. Based on recent comparables and similar drafted players.

Past comparable picks rookie years that went 1-2 in the draft.

07-08 Kane 21
08-09 Stamkos 23
09-10 Tavares 24
09-10 Hall 22
09-10 Seguin 11
10-11 Landeskog 22
12-13 Mackinnon 21
15-16 Eichel 24

Every goal for Laine's rookie season would be goal more than Selänne and Ovechkin made when they were 18-year-olds in NHL.

You could possibly compare Laine's 3rd season to Ovi and his 5th season to Selänne. Not saying that he will ever score 76 goals, but maybe era adjusted if he gets lucky.

Era adjusted would be 48-49 goals I believe. I can see him reaching that in his 5th year (even his 3rd) if he stays healthy.

It's probably not public know how his A-bonuses are allocated in his ELC? That would give us hint what he and the team may feel would be a good performance.

Not to make too big a deal of the fact that he has signed an ELC, and has bonuses in it.

The Laine thread on the Jets board is currently discussing the difference between Finnish rye bread and Winnipeg rye bread.

It'll be a looong off-season.

You have rye bread in Canada? I thought only we Finns eat that.

Here's hoping that the season starts soon...

20 goals for Laine's rookie season. That's my prediction.

Not the same rye bread that you have in Finland. At least not here in New Brunswick. When friends and family visit they always bring me the good stuff where ingredients are salt, water and rye. They have some mixture ones here and some German stuff which isn't close

Lmao  . 35? You know since 2005 only Ovi, Crosby and Skinner have scored 30 in their rookie year. 35 goals would be a .42 GPG , he scored at .37GPG in Finland which is far less supior to NHL hockey. I get thats its one more year but the hype for this guy is really high and becoming unfair for him.

I am well aware. But I know what Laine did this year, I have historical reference to back it up. He is better now than Ovy was at 18. He broke records, no european prospect has had a pre draft year like his ever.

The hype is for a reason

You're clearly not paying attention if you think this.:)

Ive watched him a lot. Dont get me wrong im a big fan. But he will never do what Ovi has like people here say he will. I dont think he will be close. At his peak I think he is a 40 goal/70-75 point player.

Just because he was better than him at his age doesn't mean he will be better at every age after that. Sam Gagner was better than a lot of guys at his age but he didnt turn out better than any of them.
