LW Matthew Knies - Tri-City Storm, USHL (2021, 57th, TOR)

  • Xenforo Cloud is doing server maintenance Thurdsay 13th at 9 AM GMT. Downtime is to be expected during the process. Server changes were implemented recently to cope with the traffic surge last week. This seems to be affecting the user login, so please anyone experiencing this, log out and clear the browser cache. We expect to have this issue solved once the maintenance is complete.
  • We are currently aware of "log in/security error" issues that are affecting some users. We apologize and ask for your patience as we try to get these issues fixed.
For how clutch he's been this year, I'm sure he's disappointed in himself for not getting that puck out on Michigan's GWG.

Tough lesson to learn but he'll be better for it.

It’s ironic that the hysteria in this thread seems to be coming from non-Leafs fans or people who don’t have a clue about NCAA hockey who can’t bring themselves to fathom how a second rounder by a team they feel is over-exposed has actually turned into a blue chip prospect. And not actually Leafs fans claiming he’s some sort of generational star.

I hate the Leafs. Knies is an excellent prospect with a relatively high floor and intriguing upside. I absolutely see why Dubas was loathe to offer him in deadline deals.

Most of the group defending Knies as a big prospect here aren’t even Leafs fans - they are college hockey fans or respected prospect evaluators on this forum.

It’s ok guys, the Leafs are in fact allowed to draft and develop a steal of a pick who has clearly outgrown his draft day reputation and turned into an extremely valuable asset. A ton of other of their recent picks have done little to warrant excitement from outside the most complete TML homers. Knies is definitely not one of those. The excitement is earned here. Nick Robertson or Topi Niemela have nothing to do with Matt Knies.

Well deserved. Shame he's on a team with Cooley, Faber, and Lacombe all taking some of the shine.

Would love to see Knies take it to Hutson next Thursday so the BU fans realize it's not all about points.

So many pathetic Montreal fans that don’t even watch college hockey are crying in the replies. Have some class and recognize that you might not know more about these players from reading a stat sheet than the coaches in the NCAA. Just not a good look for that fanbase.

Those 3 finalists are well deserving, but my vote would be for Fantilli.

lol if you think Knies is more deserving the Snuggerud or Cooley I don't know what to tell you.

The award is worded so that it doesn't have to just go to the points leaders. It just is what it is. I probably wouldn't have Knies in the top 3, but it's not something to go crazy over.

Hmm, nice profile pic lol. And ya, from an objective standpoint I think Hutson was probably more deserving but since it's votes it makes sense. Knies had a good season for sure but him being top 3 ahead of Hutson is definitely debatable.

Knies is boosted by coming back when he could have gone pro. I.e. loyalty to college hockey. But people on here think this award is just about points and being the best hockey player.

Should be who it goes too. Getting the award because you are "loyal to college hockey" is pretty lame IMO

What you're looking for is this:

Good thing the award goes to the best college hockey player and not based on loyalty then.
The most coveted award in collegiate hockey, the Hobey Baker Award is given to the top NCAA men’s ice hockey player in the nation. Winners are chosen not for raw skill or stats or character alone, though those are important. They are selected for everything they do.

CANDIDATES MUST:

• Exhibit strength and character, both on and off the ice
• Contribute to the integrity of the team
• Display outstanding skills in all phases of the game
• Show scholastic achievement and sportsmanship
