From the Hobey Baker website:

There are four criteria against which nominees for the Hobey Baker Memorial Award are considered:
  1. Strength of character, on and off the ice
  2. Contribution to the integrity of the team and outstanding skills in all phases of the game
  3. Scholastic achievement and sportsmanship
  4. Compliance with all NCAA rules, including being a full-time student in an accredited college or university and completing 50 percent or more of the season

Well I mean the award has never been award simply based off of who has the best statistical season. It is picked based off of 4 categories. Strength of character on and off the ice, contribution to the integrity of the team and outstanding skills, scholastic acheivment, and compliance with all NCAA rules.

Oh yeah well have you considered my feelings outweigh reality??? Hmm????

The hobby baker mental gymnastics about how he is somehow not worthy but getting it undeserved for other reasons reminds me of last year when Matthews won the Hart and people tried saying it was Leaf media bias... Till he won the Lindsey.
 
I think Fantilli will win but honestly Cooley has been more impressive the second half of the season and Knies beat Cooley to win B1G player of the year so there’s certainly a world where Knies can win this.

We ALL KNOW Knies isn’t near the same caliber of prospect as Fantilli and Cooley, not is he as dynamic offensively. Fantilli and Cooley doing what they did as teenage freshman is pretty insane.

But. Knies is a deserving finalist. He’s a big presence on the ice and he’s a big game player. And he’s gonna be a great pro.

Sorry, should have said “IMO”. It may be a slight bias induced from the fact that Cooley started off slower and viscerally I feel like he’s just upped his game. Fantilli has just been pretty much awesome all year. They are both dominate players. Like I said, I think Fantilli wins the trophy for his entire year resume.

No problem with Knies as the other nominee. Hutson would’ve been fine too. And several others.
 
Hutson probably missed the “strength” criteria for the voting considering he’s 4’8 70 pounds or whatever.

They are idiots. I don't converse with idiots. And usualy the award goes to a player who is his last year in the NCAA over any player that is going to be returning.

I think most college hockey fans don’t care at all. It’s like your 15 seconds of fame or bragging rights, and that’s it. It’s only on HF that posters care about their teams prospects.

It's just fans of certain players that have been drafted to their NHL team that start acting out on here most the time. It's all about bragging rights and also trash talking rival teams prospects that were nominated.

It's the same thing every year on here when the nominated 3 come out

The fact that Knies is a high end Leaf prospect has made rival fans nutty

If Knies wins that will be back to back Leafs Prospects* who win the Hobey... NCAA voters are all leafs fans, confirmed!

And if he doesnt win its an anti leafs bias because he was obviously POTY ahead of both those guys so like, obviously hes better.

It’s because Knies is a Leaf prospect, and Hutson is a Habs prospect that makes this year painful to read online.

I can guaruntee 95% of the people commenting have not watched a single minute of either outside twitter highlight clips.

Fantilli will win imo, but all 3 are deserving. Strong year.
 
Gophers punched their ticket to the championship game!

I don’t know if Knies even had a point today, but he was easily the best player on the ice.
