LW Matthew Knies - Tri-City Storm, USHL (2021, 57th, TOR)

  • Xenforo Cloud is doing server maintenance Thurdsay 13th at 9 AM GMT. Downtime is to be expected during the process. Server changes were implemented recently to cope with the traffic surge last week. This seems to be affecting the user login, so please anyone experiencing this, log out and clear the browser cache. We expect to have this issue solved once the maintenance is complete.
  • We are currently aware of "log in/security error" issues that are affecting some users. We apologize and ask for your patience as we try to get these issues fixed.
You all think he will be called up and play this year wit leafs?

100%. The only way they could have made it more obvious is by coming out and saying it (which I think would break NCAA rules?)

The only chance it doesn't happen is if he chooses to go back to Minnesota again.

Coaches seem to like Knies better than the people in this thread, that's for sure.

I think he pulls a Kreider and sticks for the playoffs. His competition is Zach Aston-Reese, David "7 goals" Kampf, Alex Kerfoot and some AHL players who are ready to graduate. Depth scoring has been this Leaf era's achillies heal for years due to the heavy top 4 contracts.

If he can develop into a 20g forward with some attitude over the next 5 years, he's a perfect fit.

One of those players is not like the other, please get Kampfs name out of this - he's one of the most important and underrated pieces on the Leafs.

Yeah if you are judging Kampf by his scoring you are not doing it right. He gets basically only defensive zone starts and shutdown minutes and does well in them. Pretty useless offensively and if he wasn't he'd be a star

Is David Kampf available? Would be willing to buy him, should come cheap right? Only seven goals.

He likely prices himself out of Toronto after this year and we might have a prospect replacement in Holmberg.

If you need a defensive specialist 4th line C (who is playing 3rd line shutdown for us) who is good at faceoffs and PK's he is a good player to add.

BTW, good job by either Knies and his reps and/or the Leafs in not making a poor decision that many in this thread wanted a year ago.

As always, playing in the NCAA as a sophomore continues to be a much much better development path than putting that player in the AHL. He will be yet another example of this that NHL teams can hopefully learn from in the future.

The point is I remember when Morgan Reilly was better than Duncan Keith was, at the same age

Because Rielly was at a young age better.. I mean he went 5th overall.. Keith was a 2nd who took awhile to get going. Duncan Keith was hated by Hawks fans 3-4 years post draft year. There's a thread from their board back before they became a good team shitting on him for 10+ pages wanting him gone.
