My first thought was he's similar to Jordan Kyrou. Very good hands and speed. Good facilitator and can shoot. Makes quick decisions. More of a complimentary offensive player on a scoring line, but has a lot of offensive ability to play higher up in the lineup. Likely winger and needs to pay more attention to the defensive game. Good chance he could be a first rounder in 2024.

He has 15 pts in 16 games this year and is +2...that's a huge jump from last year, so obviously there has been development.

He's still not eligible for the draft too, and playing on a bad team will lead to big minuses.

I don't watch him much, but to call someone who is not even in their draft year an "OHL bust" when they come out with 15 pts in 16 games is just absurd

sure that is true but still, its not like has scored accordingly, to his high draft pick, right?

who was drafted 2nd overall, yes he is playing well and playing for a bad team but..
he was also drafted 2nd overall and has a pro man's body...

88 career points in 109 points is just not good enough, not in OHL standards
not good enough for playing for Erie Otters either. - he turns 18 in about
7 months

Jamie Drysdale was a over ppg player for a shitty Otters team
and he wasn't 2nd overall, nor was he a 6 foot 2 / 200+ lbs forward either

Same goes for Christian Kyrou, another d-man...

And its not like Malcolm hasn't produced steadily and had long cold streaks,
32 games, out of 45, where he has scored at least 1 point, that's 71.1%
- just not producing enough, you don't pick 2nd overall a guy who can play well

who knows what the 24-25 season brings but rn, things are not looking good

I’ll laugh now as he’s an obvious first rounder. May even be top 10-15 in a very strong draft.

not numbers you'd expect from 2nd overall guy (2022 draft)

but i guess he will go in top 10 next year..

right now he is ranked 8,8,10 and 11th in the 4 rankings available right now on elite prospects and his skillset projects extremely well.

Also a stathead such as yourself should have been all over his performance stat wise at the most recent WJC-18 where he finishes 15th in scoring with 10 guys ahead of him in scoring being selected in this past draft.

Wild the weird dislike you have for this kid solely based on stats in his d-1... He's literally one of the best players on the ice in every single international tournament for Canada and plays an incredibly solid all-around game.

Not sure how every scouting report out there has him top 15 yet you look at points and say he'll be in tough to be a 3rd rounder and pretend its logical

Also important to note he's playing for Stan Butler. The man is not exactly known for fostering an offensive system. Spence is coming along fine atm.
