LW Cole Eiserman - Boston Univ., NCAA (2024, 20th, NYI)

I think it's become clear that whatever Eiserman's issues are, they aren't because he doesn't care or because he's selfish. (And for the record, I posted on this thread pushing back on that narrative this summer.) To me, that implies that any poor shot selection is due to lack of creativity or hockey IQ. And I'm not convinced this shot selection is that bad.

I think he's an NHL player in the end. He has enough physicality in his game that with good coaching and if reigned in properly could allow him to play bottom 6. Combine that with a PP1 worthy shot and you have a pretty good NHL player.
Daniel Sprong if he wasn't a massive asshole

Besides leading all NCAA rookies in goals with 12, Eiserman has markedly improved the rest of his game--back-checking, puck-hunting, physicality, passing--since the season began. Still, he's unlikely to be a one-and-done. I think he'll continue at Professor Pandolfo's Finishing School until ready for regular shifts in the NHL.

Completely agree. He still has work to do both on his skating, responsibilities in the defensive zone, and routes/rotation through the neutral zone. He also needs a little more emotional maturity. (As Kev271NYI noted, he's still only 18.) I'd also like to see him in one more WJC.

The Wahlstrom comparison is a lazy one. Wahlstrom never had his shot or skating.
I would argue he actually had both. Those are the two areas of Wahlstrom that were always appealing. He was a moderately big winger with solid skating and if he connects on a shot it will beat a goalie.

Eiserman will likely have more success, but the idea Wahlstrom wasn’t good at those areas is a little crazy.

Wahlstrom shot ability never carried to the NCAA AHL or NHL. Eiserman has already showed his shot is legit in the NCAA. Wahlstrom had a quick release and hard wrist shot. One timer was above average shanked a lot of them because he was poorly positioned to shoot.. Eiserman one timer is way better than Wahlstroms. Eiserman also has a knack of finding space to get his shot off something Wahlstrom never had. If Eiserman doesn’t score over 30 goals in the nhl one day I would be surprised.

Shhhhh don’t tell anyone this. They don’t watch him play games and love to stick to ridiculous narratives. I think people also forget how young he is. Only a couple of weeks away from being eligible for the draft THIS year! He’s have a really good rookie season at BU.

I agree that I don’t think he will be one and done. I also think it’s better for him to play at least another year at BU.

If Islanders go on a playoff run they should sign him, given how terrible our PP is he can't make it any worse. lol

how is it "damming"? You seem only vaguely familiar with that expression based on your comment.
I think Wahlstrom as a prospect was one of those guys that had things come so easy to him playing with great players and having size, that shot and excellent skating but not so much Hockey IQ.

I feel kind of the same way with Eiserman having been the same type of guy basically because of his elite scoring prowess but think that he will find the same problems in the NHL but could very well become better than Walstrom who has been a complete disappointment right?

Right but if someone were to say "I think he's Wahlstrom", responded to with "he's been a lot better than Wahlstrom in college" that isn't damming or faint praise. It's a "low bar".

But if somebody is saying he is another Wahlstrom it's bar that you can use to compare them. It should be pointed out Eiserman just got his 19th point, which is how many Wahlstrom had his first year(Eiserman in 18 games, Wahlstrom in 36)

Plenty of junior/college scorers don't translate to the NHL. I see a few things with Eiserman that make me think he will translate.

He seems to have that disappear/reappear ability where he finds a way to get open for a shot.

His one-timer is a rocket, and he adjusts to passes and doesn't need a perfect setup.

If he has the puck on his stick for any time, he changes the angle and makes the goalie move.

You never know, but he's not one of those guys where you watch him score and you don't see NHL goals.
