LW Carter Savoie - Ontario Reign, AHL (2020, 100th, EDM, released)

I don't think it's a hot streak. It's obvious if you watch him play, or saw him play for Sherwood Park, that he is by far one of the most dangerous shooters of his draft class. The question is whether or not his game will translate to the pro level where defenders and goaltenders read you much better. He's not overly fast, but he's not a weak skater either. He's not great in the defensive zone, but he's never been required to be. He isn't big, but he's not weak. His shot his elite and so are his instincts inside the opposing blueline. I expect him to struggle at the next level, but I won't be surprised if he can score frequently enough to stick around. Does that make sense?

Do you see him as the kind of player that scores and not much else? If he can be a 20-30 goal scorer that's still good value in the fourth round.

Are we bored already by Savoie? 1+1 last night with this beauty. Has a real knack for finding the open ice, including here, sees it from behind the net, skates out and no look shot. High IQ play and incredible shot.

Thanks for posting. He's lost some steam and hype around him for sure on the Oilers board due to Holloway going on an absolute tear, but he's a very promising prospect for the Oiler who could use more guys who can put the puck in the net. Having a great rookie season and definitely outperforming his draft position so far.

Gotta think this kid will do some serious damage over the next 10 years beside McDavid or Draisaitl.

That was a beautiful pass by Brink though, are they set to be a duo this year?

I have no doubt he will score as a pro in the AHL, and I think he will suit up as an Oiler at some point, but I am concerned that his lack of intensity in his own zone and his skating could hold him back as a consistent top-6 winger. Hopefully it improves over the next few seasons, his goal scoring is awesome.

His shot is absolutely ridiculous. Those 2nd and 3rd goals on his hat trick are NHL caliber shots.

6 points last night on his teams first 6 goals. Pretty crazy stat.

I think he has a decent chance at making Team Canada if he continues at this torrid pace.

Would be great to see where he is in his developmental compared to all the CHL based kids

He would be lighting up the WHL as well if he was playing in it right now. His shot is a pro caliber shot already, he’s also a very good passer. If he keeps rounding out his game particularly defensively away from the puck, then he could become a really good player.

Picks like this further solidify my belief that too many front offices try to be the smartest guy in the room. Size aside, anyone with Savoie's offensive production should have never made it close to where he did. Was screaming for him or Nybeck with our Sam Stange pick

The thing is with Savoie as well is he's short but he's quite stocky and has tremendous power in his shot. He's like 5'9 almost 200 pounds, that is a lot of torque coming off that shot.

I was screaming for the Oilers to take him with our 3rd round pick (I posted it in our draft GDT at the time) but Holland traded back for a 4th and a 5th, the fact he was still available in the 4th was shocking to me. So glad we drafted him.

Damn, didn’t realize he was that heavy. 5’9 at 200 is anything but “small”. Likely significantly stronger than a 6’2 210 lb guy

I'm dreaming of younger bro setting up older bro for open net goals this Christmas in Edmonton. WJHC dreams.

Having guys who can rip the puck and score from anywhere in the offensive zone are always valuable.

I think Carter makes the team this year, not sure if Matt does or not being a younger player, but he’s playing really well right now in the WHL.

Kid can absolutely rip it. Always feel like that skill translates well to the NHL, assuming the rest of the tools develop.
