LW Carter Savoie - Ontario Reign, AHL (2020, 100th, EDM, released)

If keeps up this pace, wouldn't it better for him to play his next season in the AHL? One year extra in the NCAA couldn't cause any harm though.

better precedence has been set with staying in University for your sophomore season.

Joe Sakic talked about it as if you are one and done in university you would essentially have like 4 coaches telling you different things over 3 seasons.

so in that case, by the time he plays for the Oilers he will be well prepared for all the coaching changes they keep making

You're starting to see Coach C's unconventional coaching coming out, he definitely errors to the side of skill in a pretty big NCHC with his full recruitment.

Probably a future NHL head coach and youngest coach in NCAA history I could see an NHL team taking a shot on him sooner rather than later.
I mean he could go out partying with the players and not look out of place.
Matt Carle' brothers.

He's really a name to watch as I think Denver could really even step up a notch in producing talent.

I said on Draft Day that Savoie has elements of Gallagher, Kucherov, and Point to his game. I certainly do not expect him to develop into any one of those players- never mind a combination of them!- but he has so far shown what I was talking about.

What do I mean? He has that rare ability to disappear and then pop up right where the puck is going to be, elite one-on-one skill, and of course a wicked shot to go along with his grit. He's not a great skater (yet) and his effort isn't there shift-to-shift like it will need to be if he wants to be a successful NHL player, but he has every other tool you could ask for in a young forward.

The crazy thing is that he is a much better playmaker than he has shown so far. If he returns for his sophomore year like I hope he does, he could have one of those rare 70-point college seasons. He's that good. Just insane he fell to where he did and many teams will be kicking themselves some day soon.

His skating looks improved from last season already.
100%. This is what I thought was going to hold him back the most. I think it's very obvious that he's worked on his strength, skating stride and lateral movement. I've watched him a lot with the Crusaders, and what surprised me the most was how "effortlessly" he was productive, night in and night out. And I don't mean because they were such a good team...I believe the Cru were a good team because Savoie and Benning gave them a step ahead of the competition every game. But...that's the AJHL, I was confident he would eventually score at the college level but it seems like he has figured it out the same way he figured out Junior A. That's a scary thought. I don't expect him to score a goal per game all season, but I wouldn't be surprised if he finished one of the highest scoring NCAA players this year. His offensive prowess is off the charts.

If you grew up as a native English speaker, in an English-speaking country, there is about a 99.5% chance you would pronounce your own name differently than they do in Russian. It has nothing to do with you - it’s the sounds and phonology of the languages.

In English I pronounce my name “Why”sing, but the real way to say it in Swedish is “Ve”sing. I don’t translate that over to English cause that would just sound weird. Like petterson, his name is actually petterschon, but he even said himself that’s not how you say it in English

I've yet to hear an NHL comparison for Savoie, would Hoffman be close when it comes to similar style of play?

I need to catch a Denver game one of these days

Hoffman isn’t a bad comparable.

DeBrincat is also mentioned a lot on HFOil as a comparable because he’s short and stocky with a hell of a shot.

I see a bit of Tarasenko as well with his shot release and that same kind of build. A slightly bigger DeBrincat is likely the closest, he’s a little more fiesty and physical than DeBrincat is/was at the same age.
