Really think Othmann will be up next season at some point. He's blown expectations out of the water. And his skating looks improved. He's gonna be nasty.
 
So what changed/clicked for this kid this season? His production and scoring touch is so impressive. Did an improvement in his skating help unlock his ability to find holes or has his release improved that much?

Yep, skating has taken a noticeable step to the point where I’d call him a very good OHL-level skater, which likely means he’ll be average at the NHL-level (and for Othmann, that’s a great outcome).

was it a situation where his skating improved over last summer with work or has it been improving throughout the course of this season? To ask another way has it improved and kind of plateaued or is it still improving?

I wish I could answer that question for you, but I’m not an authority on it. All I can say is skating was the biggest hole in his game, and he’s more than filled it in this year. If it could keep improving significantly we would be looking at a really special player.

The issue is if he doesn't blow away expectations to make the team, you have a choice of NHL or Junior, so you better make that decision quickly. He's not eligible for the AHL until the following season.

He'll be given a shot and if his skating in the offseason continues to get better he may have an impressive camp. I don't know what the offseason plans are for the organization but if they plan to sign some of their deadline moves it's going to be a tight fit finding a spot for a prospect.

It's just - what's left to gain? What experience does Othmann get playing another season for Flint at age 20 for most of the season? It's tough for development. His skating improved this season. I look forward to seeing if he can develop that even further during the offseason. If he can become a slightly above average skater (NHL level), that would be very big for us.

I’m a season ticket holder since day 1 in Flint…I’ve seen his skating…another year will do even more to help…I’d be shocked if The Rangers kept him around when he can play 1st line minutes in Flint

The CHL, AHL and NHL need to work out a deal that allows each NHL team to assign one (or 2-3?) underage player to the AHL, presumably it would be used for guys like Othmann who blow away the CHL but aren't ready for the NHL.

What he has to gain in the chance of not blowing his development by rushing him to the NHL and giving him 8 minutes of ice time.

100% should play another season in Flint and the WJCs team.

It's not really blowing development when you're playing in a league you shouldn't be playing in. If anything, that could hinder development. But yeah, the problem is there's no where else. It's either NHL or Juniors.

I still think he can work on more aspects of his game and continue to get bigger and stronger next season. We also have 2 other wingers (maybe 3 if Kravstov comes) that we need to also focus on continuing to develop next season. Think it just makes more sense to let him cook in Juniors a bit longer.
