Keep Kuznetsov away from Gritsyuk please.

He should be the learning tree for Demidov to be under..

He's stepped his game up tenfold since Glotov returned to action. They work well together.

I really hope he comes over to North America once his season ends and joins NJ.. I am pumped to see how he does in the NHL. Exciting roster for him to join

I don’t really want him to join this year since he’d be joining soooo late with the KHL season ending later than it used to. We’d be burning his one ELC year and he’d barely even play.

I would imagine he holds all the cards though on what the plan is unfortunately.. it’s so easy for him just to threaten to stay in the KHL if the Devils don’t do exactly what he wants

I mean he’d likely make just as much money on an ELC here as he would staying and then he’d obviously make more if he’s an NHLer after that. Call his bluff if he threatens to stay. I like Gritsyuk a lot but I don’t think he’s a potential star where I let him hold me hostage.

He's the best forward on SKA night in and out, Devils have a player here.... unfortunately. How soon are you guys expecting him to come over?

when his KHL season ends later this season I’m sure he will sign and be in NJ for remainder of this current season

Unless I misread, I think the KHL season got protracted a bit this year so there might not be as big a window as previous years. I'm expecting something similar to when Nikita Gusev signed his ELC with Vegas in spring 2019. The contract was registered for that season and Gusev joined them for a couple practices as they were in the midst of their opening round series against San Jose.

Gritsyuk and his agent will probably angle for the ELC to get registered for 2024-25 rather than next season even if the Devils season is over before SKA's. If the Devils are still in the playoffs, maybe Gritsyuk is a black ace but it might be a tall order to throw him into the playoffs. Albeit Colorado did that with Nikolai Kovalenko last year but that might have been a result of roster openings.

At least for me, when the Devils signed Tomas Tatar to a one year deal, I assumed he was just keeping that spot warm for Gritsyuk potentially. Since Gritsyuk will be 24 if/when he signs spring 2025, the eventual ELC will be for 1 year so it could get burned if it's registered for 2024-25. So there might be a bit of a negotiation if he's RFA this summer (without offer sheet rights). Gusev priced himself out of Vegas, but I don't think that'll be a problem with Gritsyuk/NJD.

Do we have any idea what his KHL contract pays him this year? If it's roughly the equivalent of $1 mil US then one year of an ELC isn't that far off.

Gritsyuk took a voluntary pay cut so SKA could sign Evgeni Kuznetsov. One site said Gritsyuk's restructured deal is for 12 million rubles (~123K). Gritsyuk could recoup some of the money if the team wins the Gagarin Cup.

The part about the ELC that can't be negotiated is that they are required to be two way deals. So there's some understandable worry for some prospects that they could uproot their lives and take a pay cut if they were sent down. Somebody like Maxim Tsyplakov had to sign a two way deal (950K + performance bonuses in the NHL, $82,500 in the AHL). So it would make sense for Gritsyuk to burn the ELC deal and then sign a one way contract for 2025-26. If he were sent down, at least he'd be getting a big league pay check (ie somebody like Vadim Shipachyov).

He's making approximately $125k US? An ELC is a huge step up from that. I'd give him an out clause. If he gets sent down he can return to the KHL. I don't think that happens. If Palat and Tatar can play non-event hockey Grits can do better than that.

Gritsyuk continues to look great leading SKA and he's gotten better each season. Whenever he arrives in NJ he'll make an impact on the team.

So what is the most optimistic expectation of him in the NHL v the most pessimistic?

Been following SKA because i'm very curious about Nikishin as well as Zav. So just curious what people who have been following Gritsyuk longer think
