Pure goal scorers are a rare commodity.
Dionne and Yzerman both played immediately in the NHL after being drafted by the Wings and note though Drouin has struggled physically and got sent down, Mackinnon has flourished with the young Avs as I predict Mantha will do the same with the Wings next season if they choose to give him a chance at the NHL right away instead of the AHL to "rippen."
Does anyone really think Mantha will struggle to score playing with Pav, Z and hopefully Alfie, lol, come on now.

Babcock will want him to race 200ft up and down the ice in every shift or he will get benched... and that is on the coach, not the player.

Hopefully Babcock can accept that having a pure goalscorer maybe he doesn't have to back-check as hard and play super-good-defense just due to the fact that he scores goals....but I doubt it

I personally would rather him play some AHL and get a bit more of a defensive game than have him in the NHL right away. I agree that not every player needs a 200 ft game but hes still so young that you can hopefully give him one and keep his scoring touch than I would do that.

Give him a taste of the NHL so that he works his bag off to come back, including his defensive game

we probably wont even have a need for him next season in the nhl why not let him get time in the ahl where we can log all the minutes he can and play in more situations i honestly think we will have no need for him to start the year off and i think it would be a lot safer bet to let him start in the A instead of rushing him into the nhl if theres no reason too

Nope. He can play a year in the AHL then he can come to the Wings. I would rather a few others get a chance next year and let him develop under Blashill who is a fantastic coach.

Don't jinx it! The Wings need him!.... I don't know who this Blashill person you speak of is:shakehead, can we change the topic before another NHL team catches on that he is a far better coach than his current AHL position would lead them to believe. Nope not him.

(But seriously, Blashill is an awesome coach.)

Literally; Adverb:

in a literal sense or manner : exactly <took the remark literally> <was literally insane>

So yes, literally none of them scored 50. I don't think you know what it means.

You are incorrect. Terry Ryan scored 50 goals

It is amazing that nearly every Detroit prospect thrived in Grand Rapids over the last two years (and I expect Frk to follow suit). Mantha should get some seasoning in the AHL as well. Would a line of Mantha-Järnkrok-Pulkinnen be realistic?

I'd think so, although Mantha actually plays RW.

Or they might go with something like:

Jurco-Jarnkrok-Pulkkinen
Athanasiou-Ferraro-Mantha

Whoever centers that second line will be a lucky guy. His wingers combine for just shy of 100 goals in the CHL this season.

I want to see the Moncton matched up against Val-D'or in the playoffs, just so I can see Mantha play. He had a 3 or 4 pt game against the Cats last weekend.

It's not about him putting up points. Short term pain for long term game. Learn Detroit's system, understand your defensive and team responsibilities. KNOW what to do instead of having to think about it. These are the things that you gain from not putting up 50 points in the NHL your rookie pro campaign.
Unless he's already a defensive stalwart, and I don't know that he is, I don't see him playing for the Wings, UNLESS they need him to because there isn't someone more prepared (injury or otherwise)

Ferraro is questionable to make the NHL (dependent on roster spots), let alone being a 2nd line center. More like:

Jurco-Jarnkrok-Mantha
Nyquist-Sheahan-Pulkkinen
:nod::naughty:

Ferraro would get claimed in my opinion if we tried to pass him through waivers. Callahan might as well, but I think he has more chance of clearing than Landon does.

Not insane to put a couple of them with a veteran AHL signing that can handle second line duties. That or the chance that Janmark is over and is converting to center or at least being tried out there is real.

Curious what the Wings have made of Athanasiou more or less failing at center in Barrie, they played him there a lot in prospect camp but it would appear not to be his position moving forward. They could I guess let both Athanasiou and Janmark spend about half a season doing it, seeing if either guy can make it stick as a position moving forward.

Ferraro won't be back in GR next year, no longer waiver exempt. Someone will claim him if he makes it to waivers.

Mantha can play LW or RW it don't matter.

Scored 38 seconds in tonight to keep his goal per game ratio at 1.00

53 in 53 games

Mantha would have been leading the CHL by a large margin if he didn't miss all those games at the WJC... Still he's only 4 goals back of Dane Fox, whose a 1993-born, under/middle-sized player playing for one of the top teams in the CHL...Same with Connor Brown in the points stats rank.

Mantha should be getting CHL player of the year award (they don't count the playoffs in this award or?)

Absolutely. Drouin missed games due to the WJC last year as well and still won CHL player of the year, so I don't see why Mantha can't either.
