I agree. Getting one win away from the finals doesn't come along every year, but the title of this thread is so laughable. Last night was no where near as big a game as the previous game 6 and 7s he has played, which were all elimination games for us(except round 1). 10-2 in his last 12 elimination games. Oh he sucks so bad :sarcasm:

The original title was meant as a sarcastic jab at those who overreact to bad Lundqvist performances so you are correct it was literally meant as a joke. But you might have misread the intent behind the title and might have been referring to the title as a joke because it was ignorant

I don't think it's a guarantee that he will have a good game tomorrow. He was so so in the elimination game 6 of the last ECF after tanking in game 5 at home. Of course, we all know he was outplayed by Marty in that series. I'll be at the game tomorrow so I hope he gets it done. I honestly think he just put too much pressure on himself sometimes.

This 100%

Didnt read the first few pages of the thread. Not surprised by overreaction in this thread

If you ever needed a little reminder that ALL goalies, even them best of them, have their moments... Quick opened the game allowing 3 goals on 7 shots. No hate to Quick, love the guy's game, just a friendly reminder that these guys are human

I'm absolutely fine winning 7-6 tomorrow and really don't care if hank plays well or not.

2 more cracks?

Technically yes. However, does anyone want to see if the King can win another game 7 ? in Montreal?

In mind, 6 or pack your bags for the summer.

isn't Hank like 6-2 in game sevens? Those are good odds. Still, I want this series closed out yesterday.

You either saw '94 or you didn't, but It's not once in a lifetime for anyone. People live longer than 20 years now.

20 years is a long ass time.

Besides there's several teams in the league that have NEVER been in the Stanley Cup Final. There's no guarantee this even comes every 20 years.

This is our shot NOW. Hank has to get us there.

Whether he is 6-2 or 5-1 is great but.... that's history. If a game 7 is played the Rangers will be no better than a pick'em and Lundy's history in Montreal (with the exception of the first two games in this series) has been a house of horrors. Maybe he can extend his game 7 streak but I'd rather not see him (and the team) go to the well again.

Lundqvist being 5-1 in game 7s is history but his history in Montreal isn't history?

Situation trumps location? How about he just comes out pissed off and focused tomorrow so we don't have to find out the answer to which history wins.

No, I'm just saying the past is in the past or it isn't. I don't think you can selectively use one thing and dismiss the other, especially when his excellent game 7 performance (2-0 in this playoffs) is more recent history than his regular season ghosts in Montreal. I think the team will be fine tomorrow. This group rebounds very well and game to game momentum is a highly overrated thing.

Oh I agree. If anything, I think in a weird way the fact that last night was such a poop show is actually a good thing. Still want no part of a game 7 in Montreal. Of course, by game six only one team and fanbase wants a game 7.

Just look at the West - elimination game between two Cup winning goalies and they give up a combined 9 goals (8 in regulation) and each has sub .900 save %'s in that series. Chicago wins game 6 at home, just like the Habs.

Game 6 is the big test for the NYR. If they want to move on they have to be great tonight from the goalie out.

This is a good point. One team so desperate to win with nothing to lose, the other team with a nice lead in the series and maybe doesn't bring the same intensity. And both of the leaders on the road.

Tonight - one should assume - that both teams will bring everything they have.

He needs to play better than he did in game 5, but if the team plays the same way in front of him, it'll be nearly impossible to win. Far too sloppy in the defensive/neutral zones and far too cavalier in the offensive zone.

If he wins tonight I will even shut my mouth he has been outstanding but if this series slips away and some how they lose I will want his head .. Game 5 was brutal he needed to win that game

If you need another reminder, Lundqvist is actually leading all goalies in the Conference Finals Sv% with a .912.

He has been underwhelming this series but every single goalie has been even more underwhelming.

The people that trash Lundqvist are usually the same people that say, "What has he won? And Olympics don't count!"

It makes you wonder if this is infact a team game? I think our fanbase is just so spoiled that when he doesn't play godlike, we get angry. If we never drafted Lundqvist, I doubt we make the playoffs much if at all in the last 10 years.

People that point to Quick, Crawford and Rask... ask yourself this. Do these teams still win the cup with Lundqvist in net? REALLY hard to say no. Pekke Rinne is easily one of the best goalies in the league and doesnt get enough credit for the same reasons as Lundqvist. He is stuck playing on inferior teams.

There are probably 5-6 teams in the league that you can move Lundqvist to and probably create a dynasty.

Why did he need to win. We won 2 in Montreal already. Game 5 was the exact type of scenario that happens all the time. Team gets a huge lead, comes out flat, against a significantly more desperate opponent.

Tonight is a must win, imo. Game 5 was not, at all.

^This

For every average game he played, he had 10X as many games where he did more than his share to keep us in it.

People can say all that want about Sather changing or the influence of Gorton, but without Lundqvist all these years, this team would have been south of nowhere.
