Well, they gave Wheeler every chance to be the hero. Last shift of the 3rd, 1st of OT, and double shifted at the end. Keep forcing it and eventually it'll pay off.

It’s pretty scary looking at PP TOI and seeing Wheeler at 10th in the entire league amongst forwards. With 0 PP points.

Yes there’s obviously some bad luck involved, but sooner or later you need to re-evaluate someone’s role when they’re so brutally inefficient. PoMo’s solution seems to be to just increase his minutes.

Maybe he’ll start hitting 25 minutes per game in a few weeks.

What is even more odd is in his post game he even said they didn't have that much in the tank tonight but yet they played huge minutes anyhow.

Nathan looks like he will help the puck movement of the d. If we could get Kulikov on the third pair with Poolman/Niku it would create a decent third pair. We need a good RS dmen for our top pair but that is likely not in the cards this year barring Buff coming back.

I agree -
It's getting the right pairing out there - especially the top 4.
If we can move the puck out of our zone quickly, it takes a huge amount of pressure off the O guys who are tied up on the walls or battling in our zone.

This team will live or die with Wheeler.

Coach needs to realize there are better options in the team.

Coach will live or die with CSW.

I get the Wheeler concerns - he's struggling.
I also know that he can play better and he's known for slow starts - he'll need to play his way out of it and get back on track.
Hopefully sooner rather than later

Wheeler playing defense for Schief and Connor in the OT shows you all the problems you need to know about how this team is run. Just pathetic.

Maurice said it was an issue with having only two D (JoMo and Pionk) able to play at 3v3.

Boy, it’s sure too bad we don’t have a dynamic offensive dman in our system. Someone who basically wrecks the AHL and has nothing left to prove there. Sure would be nice to have someone like that. Guess we’ll just have to dress the Bitetto’s and Sbisa’s of the world instead!

Chevy just gave wheeler 8.25x5 so mo is going to take wheeler off pp or cut his minutes and show everybody Chevy made a mistake. Maurice values his job to much.

I thought Wheeler had a great game personally. As the game went along he was probably the hardest player on the puck for both sides.

Bad 1st but much better as the game went a long.
Need some better quality chances or some of those blocked shots to get to the net.

Yeah I thought Wheeler was the best on that line. Scheifele and Connor had off nights imo.

I agree the team needs to get more quality looks.

Wheeler could have been the hero if Scheif had buried that feed in the 3rd. Wasn't the goat. Blackwood played well, and we didn't bury our chances.

I liked what I saw of Connor-Roslovic-Wheeler, when they got the shift after the Little injury, but I don't know if Maurice will go in that direction. Was a little surprised that he got the bump over Copp.

What I liked about this game is Morrissey-Kulikov, though I apparently missed Kulikov's early falters, but boy he owned Taylor Hall pretty good this game, was very smart with stick position. Morrissey looked a lot more confident with an experienced d partner. Pionk to me is the catalyst for so many good things. His first pass is better than Trouba's and his speed is too. Beaulieu was ok for his first game. Like Sbisa's game. I'll accept Bitetto for what he is, but I think we could put 3 solid pairings together, if Poolman goes on IR, and the Jets are willing to give Niku some ice time in his place. But I don't run the bench...

Bryan Little sure is taking some lumps early. Take some rest, get healthy, we will miss you in the lineup, but Roslovic is playing some good hockey right now, that has me optimistic.

Wondering if Harkins could get the call for his 1st NHL game against Vancouver in his place.

Hard to replace Little and Bourque on the PK.

Did Bourque get injured as well? I know he took that shot but he played after for a bit.

Good news is that the team gets a couple of 2 day and a 3 day break this month. It should lead to some good practice time where they can hopefully iron out some of their offensive and nz play.

Too long. I honestly have no clue what Sbisa brings to their lineup.

Its because Maurice has gone into full blown prevention mode. He wants good safe guys back there that he can trust defensively. I don't agree with the strategy but that is what he has elected to implement. Maybe when the team gets solid enough there he will start to open things up a bit offensively and a player like Niku can hopefully get back in.
